“Coastal star attraction”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013 via mobile

This is an outstanding museum and one of the best on the West Coast. It is a very interesting historical perspective on local and regional maritime history with excellent artifacts, graphics and media presentations. There is plenty for both children and more mature visitors. Presentations featuring Coast Guard surf rescue boats are exciting as is the presentation on Columbia River Bar pilots.
Fishing, canneries, riverboats, wartime ship history, it is all there and well executed. Located right on the waterfront with expansive river traffic views this is a well designed venue for education and history in a place already loaded with Lewis and Clark lore.
A large well-stocked gift shop has an excellent selection of topical books on maritime related subjects as well as appropriate children's gifts.
Admission at $12 per person is a little steep for families, even with discounts for children and seniors.

“Great place to take the kids on a rainy day!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 22, 2013

The best part about the maritime museum is the hands-on activities they have for the children. They love to pretend they are piloting the tugboat! The rest of the museum is interesting and informative, giving glimpses into life on the Columbia River and Columbia River Bar, from the time of Capt. Robert Gray to now, as well as U.S. military naval history. We can't wait to check out the new 3D Shark film!!

“The best thing in Astoria”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

We didn't like Astoria, but we loved this place. The building itself is beautiful and the exhibit in the big (we're talking REALLY big) front window gets you excited about it. We found a lot that interested us here. I spent a lot of time looking at the exhibits of the history of shipping. My husband was more interested in the modern shipping exhibits. It's a good thing that most of it is hands on, because he wanted to handle it all, climb on it, turn its wheels and push its buttons. They let him.

If you are interested in history, exploration or ships, plan to spend a lot of time here. If you have kids, I imagine they will have a great time. Really a must see - but do it passing through. don't put a lot of time into seeing this city.

“Wonderful Museum”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

My husband could have spent all day here. We enjoyed all of it, but being able to tour the actual ship was the best. The hands on activities kept my children entertained. I personally enjoyed the coast guard stories. Great activity for a rainy day.

“So interesting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

Loved visiting when it wasn't busy...we took our time exploring the whole museum! Small children might get bored easily. A new shark 3d movie will start showing there this summer which looks cool
