This is an outstanding museum and one of the best on the West Coast. It is a very interesting historical perspective on local and regional maritime history with excellent artifacts, graphics and media presentations. There is plenty for both children and more mature visitors. Presentations featuring Coast Guard surf rescue boats are exciting as is the presentation on Columbia River Bar pilots.
Fishing, canneries, riverboats, wartime ship history, it is all there and well executed. Located right on the waterfront with expansive river traffic views this is a well designed venue for education and history in a place already loaded with Lewis and Clark lore.
A large well-stocked gift shop has an excellent selection of topical books on maritime related subjects as well as appropriate children's gifts.
Admission at $12 per person is a little steep for families, even with discounts for children and seniors.
