Having begun as a TripAdvisor Contributor within the past few months, I’m now writing some reviews on attractions, hotels, and restaurants in the coastal areas of Georgia and Northern Florida visited during one of those once-in-a-lifetime winter Epic Road Trips.
The staff was courteous and friendly. I’d call the cleanliness of my queen bed room average. I got decent sleep there. There were no bugs of any kind during my stay. I appreciated the micro/fridge combination. The tub was old and worn. The tub surface was very slick. There was nothing to hold onto and no rubber safety mat. I did not dare to step in there and take a shower. I survived with thorough sponge baths for two days.
The continental breakfast was above average as this Super 8 had the waffle machine.
Fast food restaurants were close by; so was a place called Sonny's BBQ. There was a Publix Super Market about ½ mile away right on University Boulevard.
This hotel is not in the best of neighborhoods. I did not feel safe there after dark because I was traveling alone. And, I'm not a fraidy cat. I can defend myself.
There were people who appeared to be residents of the hotel; there were others who were definitely contractors on the road. There were people socializing outside until after 11:00 PM.
Unfortunately, I’d booked this hotel for two nights. I wished that I’d stayed back at the Howard Johnson Inn & Suites over on Salisbury Road North for three nights instead of just one that preceded my two-night stay here.
In speaking with the day manager about the slick tub surface, I was informed that the hotel owner planned to remodel all the bathrooms and that walk-in shower stalls were under serious consideration. From more recent reviews---now some seven months later, it's apparent that the renovation has not happened yet.
