“Nice Walk”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013 via mobile

Nice to walk a shaded hammock just outside of suburbia. My 5 month old and I walked the trail (I walked, she strollered). Wide and quiet trail with nice undulations in a part of the world known to be flat. Worth the trip.

“Nice Hike, be wary if your going with a stroller”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 31, 2013

This is a great hike especially if you have kids over the age of five. You can take them down by the march and have a picnic way of the beaten path under shaded trees with spanish moss beards.
The blue trail is where I mainly stayed with my two year old.

“Great Urban Hiking”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 20, 2013

I try to hike here whenever I am in Jacksonville. The city is very fortunate to have a resource like this within the urban area. There are many things to enjoy about it:

1. Varied terrain. Unusual in this coastal area, but the result of the fact that much of the site is a pre-European shell midden (or landfill). In some places where tree roots have opened hillsides it is possible to see all of the shells that are normally covered by soil and sand.
2. Wildlife. Shore birds, snakes, shellfish and fish.
3. History. The site of possibly the first European fort in what is now the US (I'm from Beaufport, SC and we think differently), the site of a battle between Spanish troops and Native American warriors, an 100+ year-old family cemetery.

Increasingly, at about 6 p.m., local residents are arriving with their dogs, which may or may not be a good thing. There may be some problems, since the National Parks Service has had to install a pet waste station, with plastic bags and a receptable for the bags. When I was there last week it had obviously not been emptied in a while--the fault of sequestration?

“One of the most beautiful places in NE FL”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2013

Come, walk and enjoy - this is a North Florida gem. Bring the kids or the dog(s), but don't miss the views and feeling of history surrounding your every step. It's part of the Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve - a must see! And, Willie Browne was quite a character!
