Went to Metro Diner for lunch while in Jacksonville. Our first time we went to the new location at Jacksonville Beach. It's a nice size diner. It was still crowded after 1:00 but we didn't have a wait. The atmosphere reminded me of a New York diner. We got the mushroom swiss burger with fries and the roast beef & bleu cheese. The burger was good. the roast beef was a little dry- could have used a little au jus. We couldn't believe all the different plates of food the servers were bringing out and the amount of food on each plate. Everything looked very good. The breakfast looked so good that we decided to go back Sunday morning before heading home. Our server told us if we didn't want to wait at least an hour we better get there before 8:00 a.m. Well, we didn't make it before 8 and she was right- an hour wait! The location at Hendricks is much smaller. There were cars lined up and down the road. A crowd of people waiting outside to be seated. They have outdoor seating which is first come, and the people waiting would jump as soon as anyone at the table made any indication they were about to leave. I wasn't going to out- walk someone to beat them to a table so we opted to wait for an indoor table. It is small quarters on the inside but the service was great and fast. By the time we were seated it was around 11:00 so I ordered breakfast and my step mom ordered lunch. I had the Yo Hala on the Square- recommended by Guy Fieri from Food Network's Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. It was very good, but you must love blueberries and bananas! I could have done with fewer blueberries. My step mom got the meat loaf after we read many good reviews on it. She said it was very good! Our server was great! As busy as it was, she took the time to sit down for a moment and talk with us about where we were from and things we did while in Jacksonville. We would definitely go back!
