This is one of Jax's "fancy" restaurants; the kind you celebrate a special occasion at. Maybe an anniversary, special date, ritzy business party.
I was with a group of about 20, we had reservations and were lucky to be seated with a view of the river after a quick tour of the salad bar.
We had three servers assigned to the party. despite this the service was slow, WAY too much time between seating and ordering, receiving food, etc. Huge disappointment. My table was the first to order, last to receive food.
They have an amazing early bird menu 4:30-6:30PM and there was another special menu for the "Eat Up Downtown" event. The price for a three course meal was only $25! You could even get prime rib, much to the delight of several in the party.
Out server didn't seem to have a clue what wines to pair with our choices, I am shocked that there is no sommelier there to assist? The wine that was suggested was much too sweet with my meal.
I had the gazpacho to start, it was wonderful. Full of fresh veggies, chunky tomato and sour cream. I had the chicken romano and it was also delicious as were the Yukon Gold potatoes served with it. the only person at the table hugely disappointed with her meal ordered cod and the portion was tiny, REALLY tiny compared to what we all received.
I was not at all impressed with my crème Brule, it was just average. The one served at Maggiano's is far superior, but neither is as good as the old 24 Miramar served.
Having been in food service in the past, I could say there is quite a bit of room for improvement. I understand being unobtrusive and allowing people to enjoy a meal. I should not have had to repeated wave a server over to take dirty plates, bring dessert, etc.
Food 4 only because of the lack of a sommelier.
