The fried chicken is ok, but not necessarily better than many other places. The rolls are smaller than average, the split peas are just gross (but in fairness, ALL split peas are nasty, not just theirs...), and none of their other sides are worthy of writing home about. If you like split peas, then maybe you'll enjoy Beach Road, but if not, you have no reason to go out of your way to eat there. Save the trouble and go somewhere like Cracker Barrell or Zaxby's. Maybe BRC was the best in the city 30 years ago, but not anymore. They are ok, but not spectacular. Certainly not a "Top 10 in Jacksonville"establishment.

This is one of my 5 favorite restaurants in the world! I grew up in Jacksonville and visit Beach Road every time I go back. The best fried chicken in an "old time" atmosphere. The people in here have been coming all their lives. What a meal! Great chicken, biscuits, and sides. With generous portions of chicken and unlimited refills of sides, you leave here stuffed! This place is the real thing.

My husband and I ate lunch today, Sunday, April 10th, at Beach Road Chicken Dinners. I've lived in Jacksonville all my life, and I remember eating at Beach Road when I was a child, back in the 60's.
Today, the restaurant has retained all of it's charm, and when you walk in, the restaurant is comfortable, clean, and the waitresses are prompt and friendly. Our dinner was the 4 piece fried chicken, biscuits, creamed peas, gravy, and mashed potatoes. We were totally satisfied with the entire meal.
The chicken was crispy, hot, and deeee-licious! Creamed peas are one of my favorite side items, and I could hardly get enough. So good I licked the spoon!
I hope you go there, and get a chance to enjoy one of Jacksonville's best chicken restaurants. Go hungry, and you'll leave full, and happy. A great bargain, too!
