My family and I recently camped here on a weekend trip to Jacksonville. This park is beautiful. It also has very easy access to the beach. Since we went during the winter, we didn't spend too much time at the beach - but we did find several shark's teeth. The staff were always friendly. There are numerous campground hosts as well. A caution - the store is closed in winter - so take all the supplies you need.
The site we were in was very nice - full hookup even. But all the sites are not..... and some look small.... just be sure to request what you need in your reservation. They have LOTS of sites, so they should be able to accommodate you. I imagine it can get pretty crowded in the summer, so you may want to book early.
The park is also very large..... it was great for bike riding. Several people were also fishing at the lake.
The park is nice and quiet - it was not very busy since it was winter. It is also not far from other attractions in Jacksonville (the zoo for example) and really close to really good seafood in Mayport.
I will definitely return to this park again. I had a little difficulty making reservations - you only get an automated reply that confirms your request. I waited a week or so and then emailed them to see what was going on. At that point, they confirmed my actual reservation. Don't let that put you off... this park is worth the little bit of hassle in making a recommendation.
