My husband and I were thrilled when we contacted the owner of The Dickert House and she agreed to host our Family BBQ and Wedding (she is a notary and also married us). We met several times and she was so encouraging and personable.
The first problem was that the Honeymoon Suite bathroom had not been cleaned! Also, the previous guest, who stays for long periods, left his shoes and clothes out. I know he was going to stay again after we left, but it didn't feel like OUR room.
When the time came for our BBQ, we were suddenly told the week before that there was an additional $500 for the rental of the space (even though my family had booked every single room for two nights and we paid $800 for the food, not including alcohol). Then when the party got underway, there were no cups and no lemonade and tea, as had been arranged. I had to send a guest for cups 45 minutes into the party, very disappointing. The next day the owner asked me to tip the man who served the party, saying she didn't pay him anything additional for cleaning up. Isn't that what the rental fee covers?
Next, the first morning only stale rolls from Panera were out, with coffee. No water, juice or fruit.
I confronted the owner and asked if we could have a hot breakfast the next morning and she said, "We didn't agree to that." It is a BED AND BREAKFAST. We weren't asking for anthing additional, I assumed that our nightly fee covered breakfast.
Overall we felt unwelcome and she rushed us out at 10 am the morning after our wedding. We had paid a total of 1300$ for the BBQ, $500 for the rental of the space for the ceremony, and booked every room for two nights. We felt like she was so friendly and then once she was paid she had checked out.
