“Loved the Roosevelt”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2007

This small, family operated gem was an excellent value for the money. Coming, as we did, from a suite at the Hilton in the Boston financial district ($390 a night) the Roosevelt required us to make a few adjustments, not unreasonable when you consider our deluxe room was only about $90 a night. For that price we got an extremely clean, well-maintained room that could easily have accommodated a family of four. The only recommendation I would make is that they might consider upgrading the pillows, which tended to become a little hard and flat. But heck, for that price I'll gladly bring my own from home

My son and I planned a two-day getaway to the area on short notice. We had trouble finding just the right spot until we came across the Roosevelt Inn. It was just right, and when we arrived, it was everything we wanted and the price was right. We were in one of the "Rustic" rooms, the last unbooked room, smaller and more economical but not in the least disappointing. Clean, friendly, old-fashioned, and nice in every way, we will definitely come back and stay again.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? It's not the Ritz and it's not for everyone. That being said, we thoroughly enjoyed staying there. It's definitey 'old-school' and reminded me of the type of place I might have stayed while vacationing with my family back in the 70s. Pride of ownership definitely shows...the place is spotless! Rooms are quite large and very simple, but as everyone has attested...immaculately maintained. The morning continental breakfast (bagels, donuts, cereal) was a nice feature and it is centrally located to everything in the area. The owners were very helpful with directions and restaurant recommendations...we loved the Eveready Diner! The value for the price just can't be beat!

Family owned, friendly little inn. The outside looks like an old motel but inside our room was updated bathroom ammenities and brand new carpet. Good free breakfast, quiet area and easy check-in and out. It's down the street from FDR and Vanderbilt mansion and a working drive inn with current movies. The only drawback was since the doors open to the outside, we had a few bugs flying around at night.

I came to the Roosevelt Inn as part of a women's walking trip in May 2007. I didn't know what to expect from a small motel. What I found was:
PROS:
Extraordinary amount of drawer space
Deluxe rooms are oversized
Generous counter space
Separate sink area (2 sinks in the room)
Refrigerator in room
New mattress
Spotlessly clean rooms
Complimentary breakfast
Cordial, gracious, and friendly owners
Very, very convenient to all Hyde Park and Rhinebeck attractions
Great for families or solo travelers

CONS:
None to speak of

My husband and I really enjoyed our four nights at the Roosevelt Inn. It is operated by a charming Finnish lady, her daughter and dog, Minna. A continental breakfast is set out in a spacious room with plenty of coffee to drink and the NY Times to read.

The location is a few minutes from the FDR home and museum and short distances from the Culinary Institute of American, Vanderbuilt Mansion and other "must see" sights on a Hudson River Valley tour.

Don't expect a chain hotel with hair dryer, iron etc. But there was an ironing board and extra pillows in the closet, clock radio, TV and well-positioned lights for reading in bed.

  • Liked — The price, location and pleasant owners.
  • Disliked — Tight parking for cars.
  • Tips/Secrets — This is a convenient location for seeing sights up and down the Hudson River Valley.

For a budget price, this well run, privately owned and operated motel can't be beat. It
is a comfortable, clean, and well managed place conveniently located to the historic sites in the Hyde Park area.. The property is well maintained by the owners. Some unanticipated surprises include the super water pressure in the shower, the complimentary breakfast in their cozy coffee shop, & free wireless internet connection.
