“Make a reservation and plan a trip to the Hudson Valley!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2013

This was a celebration birthday dinner with my best friend as part of a girl's getaway.
Prior to dinner we enjoyed the lovely grounds, 4 p.m. tour (well worth doing - approx 1 hr long and $6 per person), a drink in the lounge area of the Italian restaurant, and then moved on to our 6 p.m. reservation. Our waiter was from Peru and he couldn't have been more sweet and attentive. Yes, they are learning, but remember this is a school/academic environment and the floor supervisor is watching with an eagle's eye. We found the food portions to be quite generous and delicious. Complimentary sweet tray was offered at the end of the meal; an unexpected surprise. We will most definately return!

“superb meal, lovely setting, wait staff learning”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 13, 2013 via mobile

went to AB for dinner with my mother. lovely meal. excellence all around in terms of food quality. dining room was terrific (old world, classic look). the grounds of the restaurants/school were very nice to walk around in. for two apps, two glasses of wine, two mains and scrumptious desserts, it was $144 including the non-gratuity service charge. a deal for such sumptuous food. the servers (as are the chefs) are in the learning stage. ours was a bit nervous, but very personable. i'd go again in a second if in the area. great meal.

“CIA American Bounty does not disappoint”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2013

We had originally booked 3 nights at a B&B in Hyde Park, NY, in order to visit the FDR home and museum, and to have dinner at the CIA. Shortly before we were to arrive, the proprietress called and very apologetically said that she had overbooked – the first time in 6 years. She had taken the liberty to find an alternate accommodation for us, she said. Since we had waited a little too long (it’s was approaching foliage season and many places were booked) we said, sure, and took the reservation.
Guarino Farms, our alternate accommodations, is a wonderful place to stay. It’s not a “full time” B&B, as the owners, Kathy and Alan Guarino, have several other things that they do with their large property in the middle of Hudson Valley apple country. See separate review.
Drive time to the CIA was under a half hour and not difficult to navigate. Kathy and Alan warned us that the CIA could occasionally disappoint since they are, in fact, students. The CIA did not disappoint – we ate at American Bounty and found it well up to the standards of the best in Boston and an excellent value. The service was perhaps a little unpolished but they are not in school to be serving staff, now are they? Great value, reasonably priced and well selected wine list, and we were even comped a delicious cheese platter, perhaps since we waffled over the cheese cart for a while and decided to order a dessert instead. I had a fantastic foie gras appetizer, beautifully plated, and a delicious sole meuniere - classics and well prepared. My wife had the swordfish and, as a connoisseur of that particular fish, pronounced it one of the best quality pieces of fish that she has ever had. Not to mention that the preparation was flawless. Dessert was delicious but not memorable. Cheese plate was wonderful, and came with nuts and dried figs nicely set off by a glass of botrytis-affected Sancerre. All in all a great meal!

“Disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

I thought with being associated with the CIA that we were in for a memorable evening. But the food was just OK, service was well intentioned but amateur. We are not locals but would not recommend to anyone else.
