This was the worst hotel stay I have had since 2003. We stopped there a little after 5 in the afternoon without reservations because we wanted a relaxing evening. The lobby and common areas of the property were impressive. The rate was the best we had seen after almost two weeks on the road. The room was conveniently located.
We got inside the room, which was very dark. The beds were not comfortable. The front desk called 30 minutes later and said there was a problem with our credit card. I went and talked to the clerk, who said it was rejected. I gave her a second card, which she also said was no good. I called both companies and was assured that there was no problem with either card. I then went down the road and successfully used one card to buy gas while withdrawing an amount more than three times the cost of the room from an ATM using the other card. I returned to the motel, received the same song and dance, and finally paid cash for the room. The only bright spot of the night was an excellent meal in the hotel restaurant. We endured the night. When I took a shower the next morning, the tub quickly filled to the top and almost overflowed. It almost never drained. We went to the restaurant to enjoy the free buffet breakfast that came with the room. This was only two hours into the three hour breakfast "window." They were out of bacon. The potatoes were cold, the hash (or whatever it was) was inedible, the eggs were so so and the rest of the food (even though it was in the restaurant) was continental breakfast food that you had to toast or heat yourself.
I called both banks that issued my cards that morning and was told that the desk clerk did not enter the information she was required to enter, which had resulted in both cards being rejected. We never had any problem with either card at any other time.
In all fairness, Best Western has apologized for the hotel's problems and has even given us a Best Western gift card for $40.00 but it doesn't make the memory of the experience any better. Don't set foot near this place.
