“A Disaster From Start to Finish”

Best Western Inn and Suites

Rome, Georgia

This was the worst hotel stay I have had since 2003. We stopped there a little after 5 in the afternoon without reservations because we wanted a relaxing evening. The lobby and common areas of the property were impressive. The rate was the best we had seen after almost two weeks on the road. The room was conveniently located.

We got inside the room, which was very dark. The beds were not comfortable. The front desk called 30 minutes later and said there was a problem with our credit card. I went and talked to the clerk, who said it was rejected. I gave her a second card, which she also said was no good. I called both companies and was assured that there was no problem with either card. I then went down the road and successfully used one card to buy gas while withdrawing an amount more than three times the cost of the room from an ATM using the other card. I returned to the motel, received the same song and dance, and finally paid cash for the room. The only bright spot of the night was an excellent meal in the hotel restaurant. We endured the night. When I took a shower the next morning, the tub quickly filled to the top and almost overflowed. It almost never drained. We went to the restaurant to enjoy the free buffet breakfast that came with the room. This was only two hours into the three hour breakfast "window." They were out of bacon. The potatoes were cold, the hash (or whatever it was) was inedible, the eggs were so so and the rest of the food (even though it was in the restaurant) was continental breakfast food that you had to toast or heat yourself.

I called both banks that issued my cards that morning and was told that the desk clerk did not enter the information she was required to enter, which had resulted in both cards being rejected. We never had any problem with either card at any other time.

In all fairness, Best Western has apologized for the hotel's problems and has even given us a Best Western gift card for $40.00 but it doesn't make the memory of the experience any better. Don't set foot near this place.

“Quiet on Sunday”

Austin, TX

We stayed here on a Sunday and it is a good thing this hotel has a restaurant. Every other place in town was closed. But it was better than we expected, and was fine for a dinner on the road. The free included breakfast was also a good buffett with eggs, bacon, biscuits, gravy, oatmeal, assorted rolls and muffins. The pool was nice and there was hardly anyone there. The room however was not as nice as I would like it was a king suite which was basically a normal room with a wall spliting it, with a King bed on one side and a sleeper sofa on the other. A counter with a refrigerator under and a microwave above. The room was dark, and even though it was marked as non-smoking, there was that definate smell of cigarettes. The staff was friendly and was able to provide a roll-away as I requested.

“Good Value for the Price”

Best Western Inn and Suites

Apr 1, 2008

We stayed at the property for 1 night. The hotel has large rooms. There is a nice heated indoor pool and hot tub.

It is a good location for access El Morro National Monument and El Mapais National Monument sites.

The hotel had free wireless Internet access. It also had free hot breakfast buffet included.

My only complaint is that the beds were not that comfortable.

It was a good value for the price.

“A Tired Tired Property”

Best Western Inn and Suites

Jan 23, 2008

I recently spent 1 night at this Best Western. After reading some of the previous reviews I was expecting a bit more than I found. This property is very tired and needs quite a bit of work. Almost everything about this place was "odd". The bed felt like I was sleeping on 2 box springs. The heating fan was very loud. Everything had an odd smell about it. Now I did find the breakfast a surprise. I was expecting much more disappointment, but as others have said it really was OK. So, if you are just looking for a place to stay and have low expectations. Otherwise ?? From reading other reviews of properties along I-40 there don't seem to be many gems. I guess there is just too much traffic and these places get worn out in a hurry.
