“Nicve B&B in the heart of Gettysburg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

Very pleasant B&B in the heart of town, comprising two adjacent brick houses. Breakfast is al fresco on good days, and is different & delicious each day (we stayed three days). The innkeepers/owners are very helpful and courteous.

Room Tip: The innkeepers/owners are delightful and helpful. Breakfasts are hearty and tasty. The Inn is a pai...

We recently spent two nights at the Brickhouse Inn Bed & Breakfast conveniently located in the heart of Gettysburg. Many attractions are easily within walking distance, and a selection of restaurants are also nearby. The Brickhouse Inn consists of two residences - the Welty House is located immediately next door. Both residences are maticulously maintained and quite clean although we did notice several cobwebs in the corners in our room. The garden and patio area in the rear of the house is lovely and quite welcoming. We were greeted by Aimee who thoroughly went over all ammenities to make us feel right at home. They have an extensive collection of literature and pamphlets to assist you in planning your activities. They also provide arranging certified battlefield guides for touring the site of the 3 day conflict. We used one of the guides for a 3 plus hour tour, and he met us right in the parlor of the Brickhouse Inn. Our room, the Maryland room, was quite lovely and comfortable and is located in the front part of the house on the second floor. On extremely busy times of the year, it could be quite noisy as the house is located on Baltimore St., one of the main thoroughfares through Gettysburg. My wife, who could hear a feather hit the floor, did not complain because the second week of May appears to be a slower time for visitors. I, on the other hand, had no problem with noise. I wear hearing aids, and once I remove them I could easily have slept through the 3 day battle. The Maryland Room had a queen bed which was very comfortable. The breakfast fare is very appetizing, and when there are several guests, they usually offer more than one sitting to accommodate your schedule. Brian and Tessa, the innkeepers, are very cordial and strive to provide great service.

Room Tip: Quieter rooms would be in the rear of the house.

Our stay at the Brickhouse was perfect. We reserved several rooms for our daughter's graduation and everyone was impressed at the attention to detail and friendliness of everyone at the Brickhouse Inn. The rooms were very comfortable and charming and the breakfasts were delicious. Brian arranged for battlefield guides who were very knowledgeable and brought the whole experience to life.

We would always recommend The Brickhouse Inn to anyone who needs a charming, quiet place to enjoy a busy, historical town.

Room Tip: Don't hesitate. This Inn is worth your consideration.

Thank you for writing the review, and thanks for bringing your family for the graduation weekend. It was a great idea to tour the Battlefield with the licensed guides. It's not generally known that when there's a group that has to use two cars you need two guides. Even so, it's good value - costing less than taking the bus, and much better.

It's always sad for us when graduation comes round, because it means the end of an era for you and us. Nevertheless, we do hope to see you again one day.

Best wishes
Tessa and Brian

We stayed at the Welty House, part of the Brickhouse Bed and Breakfast, for the weekend at Gettysburg. The host and hostess were amazing in their hospitality, and the Alabama Room was beautiful. The outside wall of the home still has bullet holes in it from the Civil War, adding to the authenticity of the surroundings. The bed was comfortable, and being located right near the heart of things, made walking to restaurants and shops very easy. We were welcomed by the homeowner who offered us refreshments before showing us to the room. The grounds are well manicured and there was ample parking for all guests. We highly recommend this bed and breakfast. Forgot to mention, the breakfast part of bed and breakfast was delicious and plentiful.

Room Tip: We needed a room on the first floor to avoid steps, and the Alabama Room was great for that. There...

Thanks for taking the time to write your review. We much enjoyed meeting you both, and we're glad you enjoyed your time here. Glad you liked the Alabama Room - that and the Kentucky Room on the 2nd floor are the two with bullet scars on the outer walls. The two front rooms (Texas and Illinois) would have, but they were covered over when the south wing was added to the house in 1868.

You were lovely guests, and such fun to talk to. We hope you'll come back one day.

Best wishes

The Brickhouse Inn Bed and Breakfast was just beautiful and in a perfect downtown location. The inn has an incredible garden and outside eating option. The Inn's rooms are decorated very nicely and the staff were welcoming and helpful. The breakfast served was freshly made and delicious! I would definitely recommend this Inn to others and I will be back for sure.

Room Tip: I stayed in the Texas Room. This room is in the original portion of the Welty house that was built i...

Thank you for your gracious review. We're glad you liked the gardens - it's a great time of year, when lots of flowers are emerging. The clematis vines are better than we've ever seen them. We're also glad you liked sitting outside for breakfast. At last it's warm enough for us to have patio breakfasts every day.

We do hope you'll come back again!
Our best wishes,
Tessa and Brian

Thank you very much for coming to stay with us, and for writing a review. Now that it's warmer our guests can use the gardens, and we do like to see them sitting out in the early morning and in the evenings.

We're so glad your first experience in a B&B and hope you'll have many more! We'd love to see you again. Take care of yourselves.

Best wishes from

The Brickhouse Inn is a wonderful place to stay and use as a base for touring Gettysburg. It is an easy walk to museums and restaurants and short drive for the battlefield tour. Brian was a great host with maps, restaurant recommendations, and booking a licensed battlefield guide. Our room was very comfortable. We enjoyed the food and company at breakfast. The hosts even remembered my preference for Coke on ice instead of coffee!

We're very grateful to you for taking the time to write a review. We so much enjoyed getting to know you. It's very rewarding for us to be able to help you with tours and dinner reservations, especially when you enjoyed them so much. Also, it helps prospective guests to know that we can do these services, and to know how good the Battlefield tours are. We think that more and more of our guests are taking licensed guides, and for three hours rather than the standard two hours, which we recommend.
Hoping to see you again one day!
Best wishes,
Brian and Tessa
