We stayed in the Swan Cottage and for the money we paid I don't think it was worth it.
We were greeted nicely and were given all our instructions on the cottage and that was about the extent of our interaction with the staff. Normally at B&B's you are made to feel like part of a family here we certainly didn't feel that way We were also told that were no more ghost stories told on Fridays. We were told the "owner" after 25 years of doing them is bored with it and has stopped giving them....then get it OFF your website!!
When we arrived at the cottage the air conditioner was turned up and most vents were closed leaving the little place warm & stuffy. We couldn't find a fan in the cottage and was told the next morning at breakfast no fans were available. Only one double bed in the place that was very soft and probably needed to be replaced. There was a fold out couch in living area & a roll away bed that was very small but I guess served the purpose.
Bathrooms were renovated with new fixtures and showers which were nice but had low pressure.
In the morning we were saddened to find NO coffee for the coffee maker in Swan Cottage!! There is a nice pot to brew coffee along with cups, sugar and creamer, only there is NO coffee
We did attend the morning history program and Mike Vice was the historian. He was absolutely Amazing and full of soo much information, we absolutely LOVED him!!!! After Mikes presentation we were seated for breakfast. The dinning room was very beautiful with each table set with crystal candelabras and lovely place settings. Our breakfast was served and we were pleasantly pleased with French toast, fruit, sausage, potatoes it was really nice.
We spent a fantastic day touring Gettysburg and all it has to offer! That late afternoon we called back to the B&B to inquire about getting breakfast early the next day. We found out our dogs at the kennel back home were sick and we wanted to hit the road earlier that next morning. We were told that was not possible. Just that morning there was a mother and daughter eating their breakfast at 7:45am so I'm not sure why they couldn't accommodate us??? Even muffins in a to go bag would have worked for us. We were only told we may be able to get breakfast 15min early but at that point why bother??? Just NOT accommodating like you expect B&B's to be.
I also just wanted to make some general comments about the grounds around the Swan Cottage. They were very over grown and wild looking and wasn't inviting to walk around. The entrance was un inviting and could have used some personal touches and/or some hanging baskets or planters.
