My boyfriend and I and a friend of ours ate in the main dining room of the Farnsworth house for the first time. Alls I could say was what a wonderful experience it was! Such historic ambiance! I just loved the candles on the table, the Civil War music playing, the pewter type cups, and the waitresses dressed up in Civil War type era. clothing. I didnt want to leave! The food was very good. They started us off with a 3 bean salad. After that they brought us spoon bread which is to die for! Then they served us fresh bread with apple butter. I couldnt get enough of that apple butter!! I ordered tha virginia ham which I was warned about. Its extremely salty! So salty my eyes were watering. It came with a crab cake which was delicious! The ham however was a bit strong and I wont order it again. My boyfriend and our friend ordered the pot pie which they said was awesome! I tasted it as well and would definately recommend it. Our meals also came with pumpkin fritters which are amazingly good. Two of our meals came with sweet potatoe pudding which is also very good. I wish I had the recipe for that one! All in all we had a wonderful experience in this dining room and cant wait to return!

“Rude reception”

We had planned to eat lunch at the Farnsworth Tavern. We called ahead and were told -- "Although we don't take reservations, we should be able to seat you without a wait." We arrived within five minutes only to be told by one employee that there would be about a 30 minute wait. This was puzzling -- we could see several empty tables. When the another employee attempted to accomodate us, the first ordered him not to -- "we're already too busy." Apparently they were understaffed -- in which case they should have told us so during the phone call. Extremely RUDE!

I was pleased and it exceeded our expectations, which we high! We were looking for a true dining experience offering period food.

We ate in the dining room in the house which is the more formal area to eat. The house is filled with period furnishings. The hostess lights the candle for you at the table and there are electric candles on the walls, so you can imagine what the lighting was like during Civil War times.

We all had water in our metal mugs which were fun and really kept the water cooler than any glass. Very welcome on a hot day!

The adults had the game pie which was delicious. The meat was plentiful and gave a good flavor to the gravy, rice and veggies. My child had 3 chicken tenders- all a very good size. One side were pumpkin fritters- YUM!!!! Tasted like fried pumpkin donuts. The green beans and ham were ok- no surprises, good or bad. My husband and I split a rum cream pie- also excellent.

The service we had from Darlene was consistant and pleasant and she received a good tip for her efforts.

The outside is speckled with well over 100 bullet holes and the house was used by Confederate sharpshooters during the Battle. You can see what window they used.

The menus are on rolled "parchment" and makes a great souvenier/scrapbook keepsake, although it's a tad cheesy.

We will ABSOLUTELY recommend this place to friends and family.

“Game pie and spoon bread!”

We love the Farns and go every trip to G-Burg. If we stay multiple nights in G-Burg, then we go to the Farns at least twice. We prefer the dining room to the outside tables or to the bar/tavern, but the food is good no matter where you sit. On my last trip, the table next to us ordered shrimp alfredo which seems like a sacrilege in the Farns. Go for the good stuff: game pie, spoon bread and pumpkin fritters. They also have a delicious spinach and strawberry salad. Sure the lights are low, and the menus are a bit goofy on roll-up parchment paper, but the food and service are great. Ask for Darlene.
She is the nicest waitress of all.

My husband and I had dinner in the Farnsworth dining room, and it was great! It was peaceful, especially considering it was Sat. night and the decor was fantastic. Our server was very pleasant (although a little forgetful, but very apologetic). I had the game pie (delicious) and the sweet potato pudding (yum!) and the pumpkin fritters (great!). Top it off with shoo fly pie, and you have a fanstastic meal, and the cost was not too bad. I liked the Farnsworth so much better than the Dobbin House dining room, that is loud and you are smashed in it like sardines. The Farnsworth was so much better. I'd dine there again without a second thought.
