“Would have been 5 but....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2013

This is a great hotel. Everything is oversized...lobby , rooms, bathroom. Spotless. Great pool and hot tub both of which have handicapable lifts. Front staff is accommodating, professional and friendly without being phony. Problem.. The sheer curtains in the room were ripped in about 10 places and the room darkening drapes do not close.

Thank you for staying with us, and we appreciate the kind comments in regards to our cleanliness and hospitality. We are aware of the issue with the sheer curtains and working to get those replaced. We hope you'll stay with us again should you return to the area!

I stayed with my wife this past weekend in Gettysburg. The location is about a mile or two outside the very center of town, but its a straight shot into the town. Everything in the area is very convenient to get to from there, and there's a movie theater, restaurant and bar and another hotel (the Windham) right next door.

The staff was very nice, the rooms clean, well appointed and updated with the latest amenities. I don't know about the pool because we never made it there, so I can't speak to that. My only knock on the place is that the breakfast food was average or slightly above average. It's an open buffet, and they have someone making omlettes which were kind of terrible. The other knock would be the bar they have there is pretty marginal. However, the Windham Hotel is right next door and they have a very nice bar. When we wanted a drink we just walked 30 feet to the Windham next door. Very convenient and easy.

We would gladly stay here again.

Thank you for staying with us, glad that you enjoyed your stay. Our staff friendliness and room cleanliness are crucially important to us, so we are happy to have met your expectations.

I do apologize for the subpar breakfast experience. I will speak with my food & beverage supervisor in regards to the omelette station - we have standards of quality, and this is not acceptable.

We hope you'll consider staying with us again should you return to the area.

I usually don't stay at Marriott's but a last minute trip to Gettysburg had me make reservation. The facility itself is nice modern and clean. Our room was very quiet, clean and comfortable! I had requested a roll away online and was delighted to see it in the room! The room was great, and beds comfortable. The clerk was friendly enough, no issues. The only reason I have given a 4 instead of 5 is that it is a little pricey and the lack of a complimentary breakfast. Neither are deal breakers if you value a good night sleep. The price is what I have come to expect in high tourist areas at peak times. You can always have breakfast elsewhere. The Hotel is not downtown which may or may not be a factor for you. Was a good stay!

Out on the edge of town is a good value Courtyard. Clean, well run, good value. Nice stay, small indoor pool. Right next to local movie complex. Easy access to highways. Only about 5 minutes drive into town and another 5 minutes to battlefield .

Have been a loyal Marriott member for many years, so I had a standard expectation of this hotel. Check-in customer service could have been alot better. Young man at the desk gave me my room key and was barely friendly. He didn't offer any other information that I might need, ie breakfast options, nearby restaurants, etc. I specifically asked if my room was in a quiet area and was said yes. The room faced the front of the hotel just above the carport entrance. Changed to a room that faced the parking lot in rear. Room was fine except it did have wear and curtains were shredded. Read about this in other reviews and thought it was an isolated situation. Both rooms that I saw had shredded curtains. Breakfast buffet was very sufficient and the server was great.

Room Tip: Rooms on the backside of the building are very quiet and the view is much nicer.

I apologize for the less than stellar service you received upon check-in. Our goal is to provide specific and useful information about the area to each guest, and clearly we did not accomplish that. Glad to hear that you were able to change to a room in a quiet peaceful location and enjoyed the view.

We hope you will consider staying with us again.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

My husband and I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Gettysburg on Saturday July 13, 2013. We were very pleased. This happened to be Biker Week which we were not aware of, and I was thrilled that this hotel was not right in town. With the hotel being a little out of town (but still just a short drive to the battlefield), it was much quieter than if we had been where all the action was. When booking the room on the Courtyard website, there was no option to enter a AAA membership number for a discount. At check in, I asked the attendant about this. She apologized, and she changed the rate to a AAA rate. This saved us $20! The attendant was also able to recommend a few nearby restaurants for dinner. We were very pleased with the room. My husband even commented that it was nicer than the Hilton we stayed at in Hawaii. The room was very clean, and the bed was very comfortable. We had no complaints.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 20, 2013

We recently stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Gettysburg on our recent trip to Gettysburg for the 150th anniversary of the battle. There are many hotels to stay at in and around Gettysburg, but we ended up at the Courtyard by Marriott Gettysburg by virtue of having waited too long to make a reservation for the event.

All hotels were booked within 60 miles of the town shortly after reservations opened up in July of 2012; a year before the event. The Marriott was not going to open up reservations until October so the choices were limited to the Marriott or The Gettysburg Hotel (Best Western) in the center of town. We chose the Marriott for the difference in cost, and the fact we have stayed at Marriott in several locations and are used to the quality and value we have come to expect.

This Marriott is located about two miles from the center of Gettysburg in an area referred to as Gateway Gettysburg. This area is at the intersection of Route 15 coming from Harrisburg (a half hour drive) and Route 30 or York Street that is a direct route into Gettysburg. Besides the Courtyard by Marriott Gettysburg, Gateway Gettysburg has a Wyndham Hotel, and the Gateway Theater; a state of the art eight screen theater, and an Appalachian Brewing Company restaurant.

The Courtyard by Marriott Gettysburg has the expected service and amenities one comes to expect from this brand. The rooms are good size, very clean, free wifi, good climate control, and very good service of the room. There is an indoor pool, exercise room, business center for internet/printing boarding passes, and a bistro. This Marriott does not have the full service bistro that many of the Courtyard by Marriott chain have, but the restaurant across the street and the food services at the Wyndham next door make getting something to eat easy in this location.

As one heads towards Gettysburg on Route 30, there are several places to eat: Ruby Tuesdays, Perkins, Arbys, Burger King, McDonalds, Wendy’s, Subway, Chinese and Steak and Sea Food restaurants; all within a mile of the hotel. There is a Wal Mart and CVS for things you might have forgotten, and a Giant brand grocery store that is a full service, 24 hour store. We bought two small Styrofoam coolers at Giant; one for the room and one for the car, as well as food and beverages. My main complaint with Marriott is the lack of a small refrigerator in the room, but the cooler took care of that; I usually use a clean trash can as a cooler to put ice and beverages in at Marriott.

This location was ideal for extreme congestion in Gettysburg for the 150th anniversary event. It was a short 5 mile drive south on Route 15 to Baltimore Pike to access the Gettysburg Battlefield Visitors Center from the south instead of dealing with the traffic congestion from having to go through the town via Route 30. A mile further south down Route 15 to Taneytown Rd is a great way to approach the battlefield, Little Round Top in particular, avoiding all of the traffic and congestion around town and the visitors center.

We enjoyed our stay at the Marriott for this busy event, and would recommend it for its proximity to Gettysburg and the battlefield access.
