“Very nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

We had 2 rooms for 1 night. This was a very nice room. We got in a little late to take advantage of all the hotels amenities. Only complaint is there is no complimentary breakfast like most hotels in the area. Would recommend this hotel and will stay here again if we are ever in the Gettysburg area again.

I like this hotel. It was clean and comfy, plus the staff is wonderful. I would stay here again if I ever need or want to be in Gettysburg. There were only two issues that I had, otherwise I would have given it five stars.

The first is that the sign is in the wrong place. We came from the direction of downtown, and missed the entrance complete because we went to the hotel sign, which is near a bank parking lot. You actually need to turn at the light about half a block before the sign. Oddly enough, there is a sign where you need to turn, but not for the hotel. It lists a gas station, supermarket, and a Papa Johns, among some other restaurants.

The second was the restaurant. The only thing that came quickly was my beer; and I still had to wait for 20 minutes just to get that. There were only 5 patrons in the restaurant, but they had one very slow cook in the kitchen. Our server had to keep yelling into the kitchen for the cook to hurry up; and, at one point, even went into the kitchen to make salads herself. It took about an hour for our food to arrive; and, when it did, my chicken was ice cold and not delicious. From what I can tell, the best items on the menu are the sandwiches and the mashed potatoes; but I still would not recommend going there if you are starving. My husband and the couple next to us got sandwiches, and their meal still took about 40 minutes.

Very comfortable and spacious rooms. Beds are first-rate. Staff is extremely helpful and prompt. We had no problem with the kitchen layout or the staff serving. Food was good and servers efficient; willing and able to meet our every request. Our visit to Gettysburg was enhanced by our stay here.

The hotel itself was fine and the staff behind the counter upon entrance was fine and friendly. However, the kitchen situation leaves much to be desired. The set-up is not efficient. The complimentary cookies at night were always hard and burned and it would be better to not offer them than to offer what was there. The lemon water was good. This was my first time to visit Pennsylvania and I do not wish to return.

The room was very comfortable. Note that the thermostat to control the temperature is on the wall near the bathroom, not on the AC unit itself. If you're not going to be out of the room by 8:30, make sure you put out the do-not-disturb sign; housekeeping knocked on the door a couple of days before that time (this was over the holiday weekend, not on a week day).

If you're coming from the east (the highway), turn left at the light AFTER you see the sign for the hotel. If you're coming from the west (downtown), I think you'd pass the turn before you see any sign for the hotel. They really need a sign at the turn itself, plus an indication on the main sigh that the turn is ahead.

Green Features: Most hotels these days have signs saying that if you hang up your towels, they will not replace them (but many hotels replace anyway even if you do hang them up). This hotel did not have any option to re-use towels.

My parents and I arrived in Gettysburg Sunday evening and planned to tour Gettysburg early Monday morning. We booked the Hilton Garden Inn and found it adequate for our purpose. It isn't walking distance from the center of town but a quick drive. IT would have been nicer to stay in a colonial bed and breakfast but we didn't plan early enough and by the time I called they were all booked up., That may have been a nicer experience but this was fine. They serve a nice buffet breakfast at a reasonable price.

Upon a late arrival we were greeted by an attentive front desk clerk. The lobby was one of the most beautiful lobby's I have seen in this level of hotel. The bed and pillows were so comfortable. Had one of the best nights sleep in along time. The breakfast buffet was exceptional for the price with a made to order menu. The staff was so friendly made you feel special. Next time I'm in Gettysburg I will be staying at this wonderful hotel.
