“Love This Tavern!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 11, 2013

My boyfriend and I eat here everytime we visit Gettysburg. The tavern gives a great historical atmosphere. And it is so fun to eat by candle light. The food is excellent! Always leave here satisfied! I am a customer for life!

“Gettysburg 150”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013 via mobile

Had a very enjoyable meal here Sunday. Restaurant was very busy and we had to wait about ten minutes past reservation time. Service was very good and our meal was great. Our waitress was Amanda and you could tell that she knew her business. Highly recommend!

“Neat tavern feel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2013

We went to dinner at the Tavern downstairs. It was crowded and it was hard to move around but that made it charming. My husband loved the onion soup and the ribs. I ordered the fruit and cheese plate for an appetizer and it was so big that I could have made a meal out of it. This was the kind of charming place that you want to go to when you are in Gettysburg.

“Historical atmosphere, mediocre food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 9, 2013

The food was average at best, sandwiches very ordinary. Chicken vegetable soup was the best part of the meal. Service was inconsistent; food came pretty quickly, but ice water and extra plate asked for took a long time to arrive. Ate in the Springhouse Tavern which had an interesting historical vibe.

“Great food, kitschy atmosphere”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 8, 2013

We were lucky to be visiting in the off season and so got to eat in the upstairs restaurant where one would normally need reservations. We started with onion soup and then moved on to steaks--a flank steak and a filet mignon. The food was all delicious--the soup was a highlight and the meat was perfectly cooked. The meals come with a basic green salad and a potato (sweet or white). I ordered a glass of wine which was decent and my boyfriend had a beer. We didn't have desert, but the options looked amazing. The timing of our meal was slightly off with our meals arriving before our salads, so they comped our soup which we thought was very kind. The only thing we didn't really enjoy was the bread selection, which was an odd mix of sweet and savory, including sliced white bread and banana bread.

The building is amazing and beautiful. Established in 1776 according to the plaque by the door and clearly a building that played a role in both the battle and the underground railroad. Amazing history.

The only complaint was that the staff are all dressed in old-timey outfits and the menu was written in such a cheesy fashion that it was almost laughable. All in all, that didn't really take away from our experience, but it was odd.

Also, prices seemed a bit high. Clearly you are paying for the experience as well as the food.
