“Good Food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Food was very good, did have to wait a very long time for a table as they had a large group in the dining room. Our server was friendly but also very mechanical in the like that he was doing his job and that was it and that was all.

“Tour”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

Meals in the Springhouse Tavern are a special historical treat. This time at the Dobbin House they offered a tour at 10:30 before opening of the Dobbin House. We toured with the owner and it was probably the best, interesting tour We've been on in Gettysburg. We toured all areas and the owner fully explained the restoration, the findings, underground railroad, and all the interesting facts about the Dobbin family. What a treat. She was so knowledgeable and welcoming. It was actually like touring your own home. What a treat!

“We frequent here”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013 via mobile

We come to The Dobbin House every time we visit Gettysburg which is at least every other month. We love the atmosphere. The energy of this place gives off that historic feel that keeps us coming back. Be sure to order the French Onion soup- best you'll ever have!

“Great Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

Our bus tour included a lunch at this historic inn. The food and the service was excellcent. Even though they arranged a private buffet for our group, I'm sure that the rest of the menu is just as good. The staff dresses in period attire to immerse you in the 1860's experience during your meal. A nice affect.

“how times have changed”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2013

My husband and I have been frequenting the Gettysburg area from the start of our marriage 13 years ago. We loved going to the Dobbin House for its friendly staff and original atmosphere. We always try to visit the area on the off peak times, but the past two visits, at least 5 months apart, were appalling. The staff that was the always there, and remembered us even though they didn't see us for months at a time were all gone. We made a middle of the week trip in May of 2013 and sat at the bar because they were expecting a group reservation - that never showed while we were there. A couple beside was moving into the area where we live and we struck up a conversation that revolved around taxes, schools, and health care. We were giving good and bad points on each. The bar tender seemed to hover around and took it to mean we were referring to Gettysburg. The end result, our food was delivered last of all the patrons that came in after us. When I approached the manager with the bar tender in tow her excuse was she thought we were "trashing" her hometown. When it was explained what was being discussed and why the manager on duty said it was an honest mistake and gave us coupons for the next visit.
Not wanting to believe bad things happen twice, we went again, this time in the middle of September after all the Labor Day vacationers. We wound up in a heated discussion with the young man who was seating us because he forgot we were there and didn't put us down for a waitress to tend to us. This same waitress was enamored with another table and ignored us and another couple at the table next to us. I wound up going to the bar and getting everybody refills on sodas and tea. The bartender said the waitress was to do this and when I said loud enough for her to hear, maybe it she'd do her job I wouldn't have to. The end result, another visit from the manager on duty and apology saying it was the waitress duties to mingle with the guests.
The Dobbin House was the gem of Gettysburg once upon a time. Now, it's fools gold.
