“Steeped in History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2013

The basement tavern is cool and the environment is great. Take some time to visit the rest of the house. Picture some early colonials stopping by on their way to Washington. Later the same house protecting run-away slaves. Staff is friendly and the food is good. Try the Maryland crab cakes.

“Go for the ambiance not for the food.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2013

Perfect place to visit. Grounds are full of history, trinkets and options for the stomach. We made reservations for the up stairs restaurant, main dinning facility. Perfectly seated, main room, beautiful table. Those were the highlights. Waitress having a bad day, could have cared less if we were in need of water, bread anything for that matter. Did not bother to offer coffee or dessert. Just wanted to get home I assume. Food, for the prices charged, go somewhere else for a great steak. Out of a party of 5, not one had anything exceptional to say about the menu. Pricey, lacks the extra quality and touch that you look for at place so beautiful and $$$ expensive.

“High end prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2013

I cannot comment on the inside of the building as we dined outdoors. The service was a little slow, but otherwise good and the prices are a little high for a lunch menu.

“Perfect meal after a hot summer day”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013

I had wanted to eat here when we visited Gettysburg in 2011, but didn't have the chance then. When my daughter-in-law suggested the Dobbin House Tavern for dinner on our 6/25/13 visit, I jumped at the chance. The nice cool basement tavern was an excellent choice after a very hot day of traveling. The period furnishings, staff clothing and candlelight can easily transport you back into the 1800's. Our waitress was extremely friendly and accomidating, bringing our food order in a timely manner between each course.. I would highly recommend the French onion soup and the roasted chicken. Both were delicious and perfectly seasoned. Leave room for the choice of desserts! Also try the 150th Anniversary ale, it is very good. For being a tourist area, the menu prices are very reasonable and the food is well worth the cost. Even though the Tavern was crowded, I did not feel that we were rushed to finish our meals. Overall, it was a wonderful experience. I would definitely return and recommend the Dobbin House to anyone visiting Gettysburg.
