Description: Located on the site of one of the earliest houses in Gettysburg, The Blue Parrot Bistro continues a tradition of hospitality, which began in 1850 with the Mrs. Schwartz's Oyster Parlor. The Oyster Parlor operated for eight years and then was converted to a private residence. During the Battle of Gettysburg, the residence was said to have housed "A good many surgeons," so it may have been used as a field hospital at the time. Mr. E. H. Minnigh opened a confectionary store here in 1868 and served those delicacies until his death in 1903.In 1920, the then-remodeled candy shop opened as the Blue Parrot Tea Room. Situated on the famous transcontinental Lincoln Highway (US Route 30), The Blue Parrot Tea Room quickly developed a national reputation. The Blue Parrot Tea Room continued to operate as the Adam's House Tavern. In 1988, Holly Giles, Gary Yount, and Chef Allison Giles purchased the historic building. With an appreciation for the tradition of fine dining and their interest in the preservation of old town Gettysburg, they opened The Blue Parrot Bistro. And now, what is a Bistro? Is it casual, homey, and relaxed or is it a sophisticated eatery? At the Blue Parrot we think that both apply. Eclectic furnishings are complimented by and ever-changing exhibition of artwork by local artists. Diners in black tie or blue jeans are greeted with the same friendly, unpretentious service. So, whether you are here for a cheeseburger, a beer, and a game of pool, or you are out for an evening of fine dining, you have come to the right place.

“Good food, good service...but”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 10, 2010

I met my family at the Blue Parrot for lunch a few weeks ago. The restaurant for a Saturday afternoon wasn't busy so we didn't have to wait very long to get our food. But, our waitress who was good server was so unfriendly. She never even smiled once. She had quite a snobby air about herself. The other complaint and yes, we know it is summer and the doors open frequently but there were several pesky flies that were very annoying while trying to eat. We mentioned it to the waitress and she said nothing. You would have thought the manager or the hostess would have attempted to kill them.
Yes, we would go back there because the food was very good but hope the next time it is fly free.

“Hihly recommendedg”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2010

Freindly and helpful service complemented the good food. Drinks were well made and generous. The filet mignon was very nicely prepared and presented as was the duck breast in a raspberry reduction. We will defineately come back.

Often we eat at this corner cafe at the circle in Gettysburg. When in town it is a must do for lunch or dinner. Service is Good, and atmosphere is unique! The menue has a wide veriety of selections and all priced at good rates. The bar scene is well seperated from the main resturaunt area so, no problen with young ones haveing a meal!!

“Nice little bistro”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 14, 2009

we arrived at the Blue Parrott around 5:30 on a Saturday night. It wasn't very crowded yet, and we elected to sit in the bar area by the front window. I see a lot of bad reviews around the service, but I have nothing but good things to say. Our waitress even changed the TV to check on the weather for the next day...we would be travelling home, and were concerned about freezing rain. We had the porterhouse steak and salmon for dinner. I have to say the steak was done just right, and was one of the best steaks that I have had in some time. My wife had the salmon, and she raved about hers as well. I would recommend the Blue Parrot as a nice, relaxing place to have dinner. The prices were about average.
