“Clean But Tired”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 10, 2013

We just got back from a 3 night stay at the Eisenhower. After reading the reviews I was a little apprehensive but after checking in, I was happy to find a clean room although its age is showing.
It looks like it was quite a hotel in its day but a major update is needed to keep people coming. We noticed numerous areas where the ceiling had been damaged by water leaks in several different parts of the complex.
Hotel staff were friendly and polite. We were there to attend a national dog show and found that the staff were very accommodating considering the amount of dogs in the building.
We didn't eat at the onsite restaurant but heard mixed reviews.
Overall, although our stay was satisfactory, the owner(s) need to make a significant investment in order to update a dated facility.

This Inn is absolutely the most diplorable place I have ever stayed in. Understanding the Inn has such a poor reputation, we made sure to book in the advertized new portion of the hotel (Aspire) when forced to be in the Inn for a four day conference. It was glaringly obvious upon check in Aspire was not or never was new. The hotel is falling apart, wall paper peeling off walls, shower fixtures so old they no longer even remotely work (my shower was a fine mist which coated the bathroom but not the person showering, while a fellow conference attendee had a shower which was a pressure washer. Both fixtures obviously from the 1970s or earlier with no maintentance), walls were dirty, TV did not work, and to top everything off- I got a wake up call every morning at 6:30am I did not order and they did not know how to turn off.
Nearly daily throughout the conference the fire alarms went off several times, the food was not only obviously microwaved- it was also moldy (every day we found at least one food item served to us that was covered in mold), and absolutely not fresh in the slightest. I actually reported this establishment to the PA health department.
Do not ever stay here!

Room Tip: There are several other hotels in town to choose from- don't stay here.

Stayed 16th April for 1 night only thank goodness. Booked a smoking room and was given a no smoking one then changed to one that was. Unfortunately the seconf=d room overlooked the indoor swimming pool and when balcony door opened heat from pool was unbearable. tried to put air conditioning on but had controls removed. Rand reception to ask that it be put right at 3pm. Went out for 3 hours when we returned it was still the same, again rang reception this time an engineer arrived and fixed it. By this time the room was so warm and stuffy that aircon had to be left on all night which was noisey and meant a disturbed night. Next morning at checkout I explaind situation and was told the receptionist would tell the manager and he would ring me at my friends when we got back to their house. Needless to say no call was forthcoming. I would not reccomend anyone to stay there not just because of our experience but also the Hotel is about 8 miles from the centre of Gettysburg so need to drive if you want to go out to eat. Spent the second night in a Hotel in the centre which was much better.

Room Tip: one facing the outside not the pool

We were registered at this hotel by a very friendly and courteous you lady by the name of Britany. Our room were older looking rooms, but very clean and comfortable. The meals served at the resturant were good.

Where should I begin to tell you how bad this place was? Well let's start from the beginning. I am on the board of a non-profit organization that planned a three-day weekend at this hotel and conference center. Overall, it is the worse place I've ever had the misfortune to stay. In addition to all listed below, the management behaved as if they just opened a hotel two days ago and did not know how to plan for events.

Hotel: I was told that the hotel was having a turnover of personal and perhaps even management (of this I am not certain) but the hotel really needs a "facelift." The carpet in the hallways is FILTHY!...It looks like it has not been shampooed in 20 years. There are stains all over it to the point that you can't see what color the carpet really is.
Checking in was haphazard and different for each of us... some were asked to show ID and a credit card, others were just given room keys.
The room appeared clean but the plumbing in the sinks needed changing and updating...they were barely functional.
The main building is connected to another newer building by a covered walkway. However, the MAZE to get from one building to another is confusing and there are NOOOOOO signs in the hallways explaining the route from one to the other. I am also a disabled person so this random walking through the hallways was not personally good for me. The "hospitality" room that we were given was not cleaned for the first two days as the person assigned was "off" and no one covered that room!

Food:
I don't think I've ever been served a worse meal in my life!!! That about sums it up. Our group had a choice of entree's for our Saturday night dinner and dance. It really didn't matter what you chose as they were all served ice cold... not even slightly warm. I ordered the vegetable lasagna. It not only was cold but stuck together like glue. It was served with cold boiled potatoes and, what was supposed to be a medley of vegetables, turned out to be a mass of completely overcooked and mushy zucchini, carrots, and broccoli. In addition, there was absolutely NO seasoning whatsoever so it was tasteless. Others did not fare any better. The London Broil was completely overcooked and served with gloppy sweet gravy and the same cold potatoes and vegetables. Others had "stuffed" shrimp and the same was true... no taste... no seasoning... and cold!
Breakfast was no better.. it is hard to mess up simple things like pancakes and scrambled eggs...but they managed to do it.

Finally, to add insult to injury, we were sharing the hotel with 800 greyhound dogs and their owners who were there for some type of rescued dog event. Apparently, unlike other "pet-friendly" hotels, there is NO designed "pet rooms" so all of the rooms smelled like dogs...

Room Tip: Stay away from here!

Great event at a great place! The Center's performance deserves a standing ovation, especially Joe, the organizer of all things. Food was wonderful and having everything in the same building was so very convenient for all. Location close to downtown Gettysburg was marvelous for sightseeing, dining, etc. Thanks very much!

Room Tip: Pool-side rooms sound nice but the pool gets noisy and crowded.

We stayed at The Eisenhower for 3 nights for a social group event that was held there. This was the first time they held it there, and everything went off without a hitch! The staff were extremely friendly and the accomodations, though aged and dated but well maintained, were satisfactory enough for us. Definite potential to be a top of the line hotel with some TLC. The pool area was very nice. Our friends stayed in one of the suites, and it was huge, plus had the option of an additional adjoining room. The venue suited our event perfectly with the all of the conference rooms and the lounge secluded at the end of the building allowing us to keep to ourselves without disrupting any of the guests. I am glad they were able to secure the hotel for next year's event! Looking forward to staying at the Eisenhower again!

Room Tip: The suites are HUGE (two full sized private rooms) with the option of a third adjoining room. The i...
