“Very Informative!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

Really enjoyed the David Wills House. So much to see, and a nice film, too. Well worth the price of admission, but then my family really loves American History (and anything to do with President Lincoln's life). Best for adults and teens who have an interest in their history or specifically in Lincoln memorabilia (bedroom where he stayed with David Wills is full of personal items the President would have used on his visit there, while drafting out his Gettysburg Address). Will visit again at a later date when back in PA.

“Great piece of history”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 22, 2013

Loved being able to see this piece of history. Very reasonable for such a momentous point in time. I think every person who visits Gettysburg should take the time to visit.

“Small Museum, Bedroom Where Lincoln Finished Gettysburg Address”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

This is a very small museum, located right off the circle in the center of downtown Gettysburg (and right across from the historic Gettysburg Hotel that I stayed at - see separate review). Since it is right downtown, parking can be a challenge. Best place to park your car is in the parking garage down the alley behind the Gettysburg Hotel.

This museum consists of five small rooms of exhibits and two restored / recreated rooms, the Wills law office and the Lincoln bedroom. It was fascinating to see the actual bed and room that Lincoln slept in the night before he delivered the Gettysburg address. The exhibits explained how he drafted the Address and provide some (but limited) context for the address. There was a short informational film and lots of info about the Wills family (who were generally pretty obscure except for organizing the cemetery and for hosting Lincoln).

There was some information about the featured speaker (not Lincoln) at the commemoration of the Gettysburg cemetery - an orator named Edward Everett, but it was pretty skimpy. Although I though the museum was worthwhile, it is pretty small and was very crowded on a mid-March weekday. I would hate to try to visit here during the height of the tourist season.

There are no docents / guides here, so a lot of people were just wandering around a bit confused - layout is a little bit confusing. No real gift shop, just a couple of books for sale; I was disappointed that there wasn't even a postcard of the Lincoln bedroom for sale. The woman working the admissions desk was not very customer orientated, no information, no smile, no thank you, etc. Except for the crowds, it would take less than 30 minutes to see this thoroughly.

Although it was nice to see the Lincoln Bedroom, this was definitely NOT a must-see sight while in Gettysburg.

“Neat Bit of History”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

The David Wills House is an interesting spot to visit as it plays a role in the unfolding of a very important part of the American narrative. You get to see where President Lincoln put the finishing touches on one of the most famous speeches ever delivered. It is full of interesting pieces of information about the November speech, the town and its recovery after the battle in July 1863. The story of David Wills is an interesting one in and of itself. The overlay of Lincoln makes this a very interesting albeit quick visit.

“Enjoyed”

Really enjoyed our visit. The person at the front desk was talkative and knowledgable. Was able to imagine what it was like for the townspeople and for Lincoln on his trip..
