“Lots to see”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

There is so much to see and learn historically that you have to pace yourself or you'll burn out physically and mentally. We had 1 1/2 day to see it all. We started at the visitors center, went to the cyclorama, museum, and then got a self paced driving tour map. With the map you can see it all and spend as much or as little time as you want at each stop. I got a little overwhelmed with all the war strategy information and trying to comprehend it all. Best to take it in to the level you are comfortable, and not to over analyze it. After all, the main point of being there is to look around and appreciate that this is where the bloody war happened with so many lives lost.

“Vast, the area and the slaughter”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

It is such a large area , we kept on saying as we undertook the 16 point self guided auto tour. The battle over 3 days took place over 10 square miles, and the human loss was enormous, Maybe 61000. It is so pleasant and peaceful today, it is almost impossible to grasp the slaughter of 1863. But we are pleased we went. It is good different States have monuments along the drive. We liked the words on our Florida monument. You can stop almost anywhere on the drive, and there are informative signs as one travels, and old cannons. Highlights included the Eternal Flame, the Virginia Monument, and the Wheatfield. Look out for the restrooms, there are a few.
It would be good if this 150th anniversary year Obama came in November to commemorate the Lincoln Gettysburg address which is commemorated in the National Military Cemetery. .

“Beautiful Park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2013

I love that the park is trying to restore it to how it looked during the battle. Would love to come to see the re-enactment of the Gettysburg address in November.

“Words can not describe...unbelievably amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

You don't know what to expect until u get there. U drive 25 mph through put for good reason. So many people visiting, yet the enormity of the park spreads everyone out. There is so much to see and do. U are left after seeing more monuments you'll see in one place in a lifetime with a feeling of awe. Your mind tries to wrap around how incredible this war was and how so many have no idea how many sacrificed their lives for freedom. You will not be disappointed. We did self tour, I felt I missed a lot because I took my elderly mother. But no matter how u see it, go see the cyclorama painting at the visitors center. It is amazing.

“Much Better the second time”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

We were on a Road Scholar event in Gettysburg. The combination of lectures on each day of the battle followed by trips to the Battlefield to relive what we had been told was fantastic. The battlefield came alive with our guides comments that correlated to what we discussed before coming out. You felt like you could envision the battle actually taking place and certainly got a real feel for what the armies went through from the perspective of the terrain and large distances involved. Fantastic week.
