“Very informative”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

The weekend was a little crowded, but during the week there aren't so many busses and tours. Early morning and late evening seemed to be the best time to go.

“A very moving experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Start at the visitor center...allow plenty of time for your visit. I opted for the self-paced auto tour which uses a CD. The information and directions were delivered well. The narrator's voice became a bit annoying after a bit. It was the way the CD had been edited.

“Great Weekend trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

This is our second trip To Gettysburg. The town is beautiful with lots to see and do. If you are or ever wanted to be a history buff ... don't miss this place. Fantastic !! I can't begin to tell you how we felt walking through the battlefield where so many brave men fell. We brought our teenage grandchildren and they really enjoyed it and want to go back. We rented a cottage at a nearby campground and loved every minute of it. Try to hire a private guide, they are the only way to go.

“Modern Americans Meet Past Heroes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

The Gettysburg National Military Park is a national treasure and can't be missed. The story of the three day battle that was the turning point of the American Civil War is richly told through battlefield markers, talented Guides, and a beautiful new visitor center/museum complex. If you have more than a very short period of time, you can hire a Battlefield Guide at the Visitor's Center to ride in your car and make the exspansive battlefield come alive with the events and personalities of the day. The two hour guided bus tour barely scratches the surface. The park covers beautiful rolling hills surrounding the town. The National Park Service took great care to return large sections of the park back to its 1863 appearance. When you stand on Little Round Top or take the one mile walk from the Confederate lines to Cemetery Ridge, you'll understand the vast scale of individual struggle and sacrifice given to preserve the Union. If you're interested in photography, visit Little Round Top, Devil's Den, Cemetery Ridge, and the facing Confederate early in the day. There are also good sunset views from Little Round Top and Cemetery Ridge. The summer trip was beautiful, but it will be spectacular in the fall.

“History comes alive”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2013

Just grab a guide, and start driving. There is something to see everywhere. However, do yourself a favor, and get out of bed early. Go somewhere on Confederate Avenue, and watch sunrise. Just you, God, a cannon, Robert E Lee, and some cool air. Chances are you will be all alone, and loving every minute of it. If you're into photography this is a must to keep those unwanted people out of your photos. Stay out till about 10, or 10:30 then go have some lunch, do some shopping, or go take a nap while all the families run themselves to death. About 4:30, or 5:00 PM see some more then end up at Little Round Top for sunset. We spent 4 days in Gettysburg, and it could've easily turned into a month. Also, go see Sach's Covered Bridge, and the Calvary Field.

Only complaint I have is what federal employee designed the awful visitor center? I mean the walk from one parking lot was almost back to Washington DC. You get a hike before you even get on the battlefield.
