“An historical gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2013

Eileen upgraded us to the suite upstairs and it was terrific! It was quiet and very comfortable.
Great location close to Gettysburg's attractions. Wonderful breakfast and conversation. The house was only about 2 years old when the Battle of Gettysburg occured. It was used as a hospital for wounded Union soldiers. You can 'feel' the history in this beautifully restored home.

My husband, two children (ages 10 and 8) and myself stayed at the Lightner Farmhouse B+B in the Walnut Cottage. It was our first B+B stay and at first I was not sure about having kids at a B+B, however, staying in the Walnut Cottage was perfect. It had a room with a king size bed, a daybed and a trundle on the second floor. On the first floor there was a sofa and TV as well as a bathroom. It had its own entrance so we did not have to disturb anyone. It also had a small porch with rockers which was perfect for relaxing while we kept our eye on our kids as they explored and ran around their large property. It was just the perfect location for us. Eileen and Dennis, the owners, serve a full breakfast that was out of this world and very filling. In addition, they offer cookies around the clock. Betty, the housekeeper, is also so personable and contributes to the warmth and hominess of this charming B+B. We had an amazing time in the beautiful town of Gettysburg and the stay at the Lightner Farmhouse as certainly one of the highlights. We would recommend a stay here for sure.

Dennis & Eileen Hoover, the owners, were warm and very inviting . . . and their sincerity shined through . . . we felt comfortable and at home right away. The accommodations were very nice and I must add that the everything was in order and clean. Our stay was limited in time, so Eileen graciously offered the use of her audio car tour for us to experience the Gettysburg area. And breakfast was very nice, too. Highly recommended!

Room Tip: Our stay was in the Cedar Room . . . highly recommended as you had your own entrance and a nice porc...

We stayed at the Lightner Farmhouse in early April and truly loved it. My husband is a Civil War buff and he enjoyed talking about history with the innkeepers. They recommended several things to do (and places to eat) that we have never done on our many trips to Gettysburg and they were great suggestions. We would love to return soon and we would surely recommend The Lightner Inn to anyone who loves history and the peace of the countryside, but wants to be a close drive away from the battlefield and museum.

We were there at the end of March 2013 with our 2 grandsons, ages 12. Truly enjoyed our stay in Gettysburg and the Lightner Farmhouse with it's rich history. Breakfast was wonderful, along with great hosts and excellent accommodations. Looking forward to our next visit. We will definitely stay here again.

I was headed to Phenomology 105 in Gettysburg in March, but I wanted to stay in a place with some history rather than the same ole hotel you can find anyplace. I found the Lightner Inn doing an online search of Bed & Breakfasts in the Gettysburg area and for some reason it stuck in me this was the place to spend my 4 day trip.

I am very happy I chose the Lightner, my stay here felt like when I was a little kid going on a trip and staying at a favorite Aunt and Uncle's, the hospitiality was great. Eileen and Dennis met me and gave me a quick tour of the house and its history. I stayed in the Cedar Room which had its own side entrance which was very nice. The room was very comfortable and an electric fireplace helped keep the room warm at night (cold in March still).

The morning breakfasts were home made and excellent. Waffles one morning, quiche the next and French toast stuffed with blueberrys were 100 times better than you could expect from a restaurant. Betty would make sure everything was just right during breakfast! The location was ideal as it was close enough to downtown Gettysburg and the battlefield, yet just far enough away that when you are on the property, you feel like you are in a nice, peaceful, rural secluded area. I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay and will gladly stay here the next time I come to Gettysburg. Thank you again for a memorable stay!
