“the reason to visit Gettysburg”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

Eisenhower was the last great President, and this house/farm exemplifies the relaxed man he was, with examples of his paintings, intimate photos, and possessions, a brief but informative film of his career in the Army and politics. You have to get a ticket and shuttle bus from the main NPS Gettysburg Visitor Centre, but the bus driver has some interesting comments to make; then a park ranger welcomes you to the Farm , and another to the House. Then you are free to tour on own which is very good. The President had a prize winning herd of angus and how he cared for them is well explained in the second farm and barn. We liked the limos, and secret service office. A really worthwhile place to take children. A President who had no soldiers killed on his watch; fought no wars; and balanced the budget with full employment. Why has no successor achieved these fine accomplishments? A great man.

“complex man, simple home”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

How far we've come in creature comforts since the Eisenhower's renovated and added to this old farmhouse in 1952. It's a great introduction to the man and his time to tour the house and look around the grounds; and a good deal at $7.50 including the bus ride and some interesting talk from the bus driver. The staff is very knowledgable and willing to talk. Some people will never get past the image of Ike as an old fuddy duddy playing golf. He was one of the great organizers and commanders, but in a quiet way for public consumption. We visited on a sunny Sept. weekday, there was no big crowd so we had time to look and talk. The only caveat is that 3 of the 4 folks in our family group have trouble standing long periods and the inside of the house obviously, has no seating for tourists. It is a historical site after all. If your faced with discomfort standing for long periods talk to the folks at the visitor center before you get the tickets. Wheel chair access is first floor only.

“Very interesting!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 27, 2013

With this being a second trip to Gettysburg, we wanted to branch out a bit, so we opted to visit the Eisenhower site. One catches a shuttle to the site from the Military Park visitor center. No private vehicles are permitted on the site. Enjoyable visit.

“Have to do on Gettysburg visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2013

Any historical visit to Gettysburg would be sadly incomplete without this visit. But reviews could go either way with this one...perhaps its because not enough time has past yet...but worth while if you have time.

“Ike and Mamie”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

We had visited Gettysburg when Ike was President so his home was not on the tour. We interesting to see how they lived. Tthis tour definitely took much longer than anticipated especially if you wanted to listen to the rangers speak on different topics. Definitely A MUST SEE
