“Friendly and informative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

On a trip out west to the national parks, we stopped by Effigy Mounds. The visitor center was friendly and informative about the culture of the Indian mounds. There's not much to see besides that - there is a trail that passes by some of the mounds. It's a good place to visit if you happen to be passing by.

“Never Understood what Indian Mounds really were.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2012

Hard to imagine that these could have been build Hundreds of years ago with very primative equipment. Also learned a lot from the exhipbit and tour about how mounds were constructed and how many remains are in eaach one. VEry impressive site that should be seen and preserved.

“History at it's best.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

You do have to be prepared to walk and bring bug spray. If you like Indian history this is a must see.

“Quiet”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2012

Even though a major road is nearby, the grounds are amazingly quiet. They have great events like Hawk Watch and Indian pow wows, and the mounds are really something to see up close.

“Nature at it's most sublime!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 24, 2012

Lovely visitors center (super friendly staff - do be sure and watch the 15 min. video - very interesting!) and beautifully maintained trails leading up (and up and up and up!) through the wooded forest to view the ceremonial and burial mounds left by ancestral local Native Americans. The mounds seemed a bit underwhelming to me tho the concept was intrigueing, but the hiking was sublimel! So glad we came! (There is no food available here but we stopped at the nearby casino first and thoroughly enjoyed their buffet lunch. We were there when they opened at 11 so food was all fresh and tasty!) PS Be sure and bring water if you plan to hike, especially if it's a warm day! Really beautiful vista from the top looking out over the mighty Mississippi!
