I had to visit a vendor in the Northeast Philly area, quite near Southampton and Levittown and the racetrack, and this is pretty much the only option better than the budget hotels (which I did not want due to the expected quality and clientele of those places). I am pleased to say that this is a nice property and I was happy with my choice.
We visited on a Tuesday night in August, and we had no problem parking. One can tell from the style of the elevators, the type of heating/cooling system in the rooms and the bathtub that it is an older property that has been renovated. Our rooms were big and had king beds, with a couch and reading chair, a large desk and TV area, and a chest of drawers. There were a wooden closet, built-in bench and garment hooks near the entryway. There was an imitaion hardwood floor near the door and up to the bed, and from there to the opposite wall it was a carpeted floor. The furnishings were in near-new condition and were clean. The alarm clock had accurate written instructions and worked properly. The bed was comfortable and supportive, with good pillows, and the bathroom was renovated with a stone-resin composite vanity, a new sink and towels were placed in baskets under the sink on a shelf. There were marble-look tile floor and walls in the bathroom. I only have one warning and that is about the HVAC fan; I suggest setting it on continuous operation or turning it off when you go to sleep, because it cycles on and off and it is quite loud when on, even on the low setting. I found that the on-off-on cycling kept me awake, even with earplugs.
The free wifi was slow during my visit; I ended up using my wireless aircard. At least it was free. We didn't use the business center.
The rooms and common areas were clean and well-maintained. There is a pantry in the lobby with toiletries and snacks. The staff was very pleasant. We enjoyed the $12 hot buffet breakfast that included the cold buffet as well as the omelet station. The offerings were good quality (bacon, sausage, potatoes, scrambled eggs, various breads, yogurt, a few cereals, and melon/orange/grape fruit salad) and the staff kept our coffee mugs filled. There was an option of $7 for the cold buffet only. I overheard some guests complain about the price, but if one were to go to a sit-down breakfast place you'd pay more or the same, so I consider the price to be fair.
This is located on huge and busy Roosevelt Blvd. and I couldn't hear any traffic noise from my 6th floor room. There is every kind of chain restauarant you can imagine located along Roosevelt, including a well-advertised pasta chain across the street. There is also a restaurant open for lunch and dinner in the hotel, which we didn't try. We were two female business travelers and we felt safe in this hotel.
This is part of the Starwood group, which has a unique approach to service in that they publish guest reviews on their website, and seem to actually respond to make continuous improvements. I was surprised to receive an email from the hotel after my visit to thank me for my stay and invited me to comment. I wrote back something complementary, and actually received a reply the next day that wasn't a canned response!
High floors may have less traffic noise
