“A Nicely Priced Rittenhouse-Area Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 2, 2014

As stated in previous reviews, our room was a bit smaller than expected for a "Deluxe Two Doubles" but this wasn't a concern considering the rate, cleanliness of the hotel/room and friendliness of the staff.

Staying in room 1010 (decent view!), we were immediately greeted by a housekeeper in the hallway who was extremely cheerful- asking if we required more towels and later bringing us a good number of extra bottled waters without having to ask, knowing that we were in the city for a night of birthday partying and would be "parched" by nights end.
She definitely started our experience off nicely and was tipped accordingly for it!

The valet service was a bit awkward however and higher-priced at $39.
From previous experience, the valet is generally placed outside of a location for convenience but the Latham's was located directly inside the lobby of the hotel so there was a bit of confusion as I believed the gentleman inside to be the bellman/doorman and had to ask if the valet service was available that day.

At any rate, the selling point of the Latham Hotel is undoubtedly it's location and the car service which is provided to all guests free of charge. This really ended up saving us money since we would've been paying $25 each ride if an Uber was requested.

A recommended find!

Dear knb0187,

Thank you for choosing The Latham Hotel Philadelphia on your recent visit to the area. Also, thank you for taking a moment to recognize Barbara, one of our room attendants that has been with us for 20+ years, she takes tremendous pride in serving our guests! Please allow me to apologize for any confusion regarding our valet process. Each of our valued guests are directed to our bellman located adjacent to our front desk, following the checkout process to store any luggage as well as coordinate vehicle retrieval from our third party valet parking provider. We are here to make your experience as seamless as possible, and will work hard to ensure any confusion with the process is eliminated moving forward.

Thank you again for your time and feedback, we look forward to seeing you again on your next visit to The City of Brotherly Love!

Yours in Hospitality,

Mike Roberts

This hotel was in a wonderful location! My deluxe king room overlooked the street, was a great size, and the bathrooms were a great size and super clean. The staff was extremely helpful and kind however their valet system seemed a little confusing and nobody understood. Besides that I would certainly return here again and again.

Very clean and well kept. Staff was professional but not overly friendly. Elevators are small and the rooms are small, but that is to be expected in such an old building. If you don't mind having a small room, it's a great place to stay. We found this at a good rate on a holiday weekend. We had breakfast in the morning at their restaurant. Yeah.... uh just skip that and go across the street to grab some fast food, you'll be better off. Slow service, had to ask more than once just to get a cup of coffee. Food was boring and bland. Skip the food there, but the hotel is in a good location and nice.

Dear Tbbeer,

Thank you for choosing The Latham Hotel Philadelphia. I am sorry to hear your experience, although enjoyable in several areas, fell short of ours and your expectations in several areas. We pride ourselves on providing friendly and welcoming service and I wanted to apologize that we did not provide this impression during your visit. I also wanted to apologize that your breakfast experience lacked the level of attentive and proactive service that we are known for at Urban Enoteca. Please do contact me directly prior to your next visit to Philadelphia. I would like to personally ensure your next experience exceeds expectations.

Thank you,

Mike Roberts

Nice hotel, clean room, boutique feel to it. Very rainy the night we stayed here and sat in restaurant where we had dinner, nice dinner! watching the world go by. Great location, couple of mins walk away from centre! Our teen boys enjoyed location. Room had all we needed for overnight stay. Would recommend.

The decor was fun and modern, and the bed was comfortable. The room was very small, but that's to be expected for a prime downtown location such as this. Our room was next to the elevator, so we were woken up with dings every time someone came up to our floor. The location is perfect, but don't use the valet! For the length of time it took, it should have been free! (it's not- I don't remember the exact rate, but it was in line with any downtown hotel overnight valet charge). The problem is that the hotel outsources this service to a company that had 1 guy getting cars at 3:00 on a Friday. One guy working the valet for an entire hotel! We waited for about 40 minutes and I considered asking for the keys so I could get the car myself. There were only 3 people in front of us, but with the downtown traffic, it took 40 minutes to get our car. Having a hotel be the cause of almost missing a flight is not what I expected from an otherwise good hotel.

Dear Sara G,

Thank you for choosing The Latham Hotel Philadelphia on your recent visit. I am glad to hear you enjoyed the property, though wanted to extend my apologies for the elevator arrival dong, and valet parking issues you encountered during your visit. In an effort to provide the best possible experience, we are in the process of working with our elevator service provider to lower the volume of arrival dongs on all guest floors. I will also share your feedback regarding your valet experience with our 3rd party parking provider to ensure we are receiving the best possible service for each of our valued guests. Our expectation is a 15 minute average retrieval time for each of our valued guests and we will work hard to ensure we achieve our goal. Thank you again for your time and feedback, we hope to see you again soon!

Sincerely,

Mike Roberts

The Latham hotel in Philly was a pleasant surprise. A small, boutique hotel with a huge emphasis on service. Room was clean and very modern after a recent renovation. They had a full restaurant and bar in the hotel where you can sit and watch the city go by - a rare feature in all of the chain hotels. And they even had a free car to chauffeur you around town. They really go out of their way to make their guests happy. The only small hitch in this review is that they need new bath towels.

Dear Brian S,

Thank you for your fantastic review and for choosing The Latham! We are fortunate to have one of the prime corners in all of Philadelphia for our restaurant. It's not only a great place to people watch with our large floor to ceiling windows, but also a great place for a specialty cocktail or glass of wine from one of our two By The Glass Cruvinet Wine Systems. Sorry to hear the towels in your guestroom were not up to par. I will pass your feedback along to our linen provider and Executive Housekeeper to ensure any towels not meeting our expectations are removed from circulation.

Hope to see you again soon!

Sincerely,

Mike Roberts

Great location , comfortable beds . The downside was that the sink drained poorly and the shower did not have hot water the 2nd night of our stay. The rooms also do not have water glasses so pick one up in the lobby.
