“Great old downtown hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 4, 2013

We love boutique hotels and the Latham did not disappoint. The front desk staff very accomodating-especially Stacia. The rooms are not large but have everything you could want. It's refreshing to have a hotel include wifi-and not be charged for it. There was a problem in our room with reception and they didn't hesitate to move us.The restaurant and bar are very nice. There's a car available on a first come first serve basis-but we didn't need it because everything you could want to do in the city is walkable from here.

Room Tip: Our wifi issue was on the corner of the 9th floor-but I believe it has been addressed.

Dear trigirlflorida,

Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay with us. We take pride in offering our guests an upscale boutique experience, with many value added amenities. I am glad to see you were able to take advantage of our complimentary high speed wireless internet, Urban Enoteca; our full service restaurant and bar, and were aware of our personal concierge Audi A8 car service. Both our Roman and Parker are favorites of our guests, they would be happy to give you a ride as well as useful information on the city, next time you are in town.

Thank you also for recognizing Stacia, and the amazing service she provides to our guests each day. Have a great summer, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

Sincerely,

Michael Roberts

I stayed here for four nights while exploring the historical sites of Philadelphia. The location was great, near restaurants and shopping. It is a long, but not difficult walk to Independence Hall and the Philadelphia Art Museum. It is very close to the beautiful City Hall. My room was spacious and well decorated. I loved the two comfy chairs by the window and the bench at the end of the bed. Bathroom was very nice and a decent size. The one downside to the hotel was the breakfast. The food was excellent, however, there was only one wait staff to handle several tables. My coffee took forever to get and there was never an offer of a refill. So, if you are in a hurry, I wouldn't recommend eating breakfast here.

Dear Nuts4TravelSeattle,

Thank you for choosing The Latham on your trip to Philadelphia. We are fortunate to have a great location in the heart of many of the best shopping and dining attractions in the city. I am pleased to hear you enjoyed the layout and functionality of your guestroom. Each room was designed with our wide base of domestic and international travelers in mind. I am sorry our breakfast service was not satisfactory during your visit. We have recently added additional staff to our breakfast service to help provide the best service to each of our morning patrons.

Thank you for your time and feedback. I would like to invite you back to stay with us again on your next trip to Philadelphia.

Sincerely,

Michael Roberts

Great location. You can walk to most attractions and a lovely part of town. The staff were attentive and pleasant. The rooms were clean. The room was quiet. The concierge/doorman was very helpful. The vibe was very low key and relaxing. Beds were very comfortable. The cons: no glasses in the room (not even paper cups)...we had to request them each day. Also, in order to get ice, you had to order it be sent up to you. The water pressure in the shower was low and there was no exhaust fan in the bathroom. Also, like many hotels, there were not enough bath towels (I like 2 per person). I would stay there again and would recommend this hotel to a friend.

Dear Debbymaniac,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us on your trip to Philadelphia. I am happy to say we have ordered custom drinking cups for all guestrooms and will implementing as soon as they are received on property. Due to the historic nature of our hotel, our hallway corridors are not engineered with ice machines enclosures, as a result we have chosen to personally deliver ice to our guests in a timely manner upon request. No need to leave your guestroom, and it also eliminates unwanted noise disturbances that ice machines can cause for our guests. I am very sorry to hear the water pressure was not satisfactory in your guestroom, and will have our chief engineer inspect to ensure all components are operating efficiently. We are always happy to provide extra in room amenities to any of our guests. Feel free to request extra towels or any other amenity that we provide either during the reservation process, at check in, or once you have entered your guestroom.

Thank you for your time and feedback. I hope to see you again on your next trip to Philadelphia!

Sincerely,

Michael Roberts

This is a boutique hotel that has it all. Location, 5 star rooms, wonderful service all offered at a great price. There is even a driver and Audi 8 available for getting around the city. I highly recommend trying The Latham.

We picked this hotel solely on location and price, and were not disappointed. The rooms are not as big as some, but then we don't need that much extra room to sleep. Locations is good. The value for the location is OK (let's face it - all hotels are expensive center city). Staff was friendly, room was clean and we have no complaints. Not sure that this would be the best choice if traveling with a young family. But for business or an adult get away, if your destination is downtown, it was perfect.

I stayed at the Latham Hotel for 10 days while on business in Philadelphia and found location, nearby Rittenhouse Square and within walking distances to numerous restaurants very convenient. The staff was friendly and room adequate and clean but I found some of the missed service and convenience details frustrating. Little things that you might expect at a U.S. hotel seem to be missing, such as water glasses in the rooms. Yes, there are no water glasses in the rooms. When I inquired at the front desk, I was told, "yes, our guests tell us that's a problem." So... why not do something about it? The single biggest problem at this hotel is the food and specifically in-room dining, which becomes important when working long hours. Here too details are missed, such as how I received two morning breakfast trays without cutlery -- an annoyance when in a hurry to get to the office.

The staff were friendly but not particularly well trained or disciplined. On more than one occasion, I was awakened in the middle of the night by cleaning or service crews socializing loudly in the halls. Rooms are cleaned randomly, (e.g. sometimes replacing towels, sometimes not, sometimes removing trash, sometimes not). Internet access was available on my laptop but the signal was too weak to connect to my phone.

If traveling on a budget and not in a particular hurry to get things done, I'd say that the Latham is a respectable choice in downtown Philadelphia. If traveling on business and on a tight schedule requiring the conveniences of a business hotel, you might want to consider elsewhere.

Dear Mr. Hetzel,

Thank you for sharing feedback regarding your time with us. I wanted to personally reach out and apologize for any inconvenience you experienced as a result of the issues mentioned during your extended stay at our hotel. We have heard the feedback of our guests, and will be implementing customized drinking cups in all of our guestrooms. We have placed the order through our distributor and are awaiting their arrival. I also wanted to apologize for the lack of detail on room service orders. I understand the importance of making sure both in room dining and dining room orders arrive with all the necessary items, in an efficient amount of time with great presentation, and prepared with care and great taste. This is the minimum expectation and we will work to ensure this issue is not repeated. As for our internet access, we have recently upgraded our server and offer over 100 megs of bandwith, and have access points on each of our guestroom floors. In the future, please feel free to reach out to us if you experience any issues connecting to the internet as we have a technical support team that services our hotel that is available to help ensure each of our guests are able to be productive while they are with us.

Thank you again for your time and feedback. I hope we will have the opportunity to accommodate you again on your next trip to Philadelphia.

Sincerely,

Michael Roberts

I and my wife spent three nights and we were impressed with the service, ambience and cleanliness of this hotel. And the front desk person, Stacia, made everything possible for us to enjoy our stay. We booked through hotels.com and we were not happy with the room we got, which was facing a brick wall and not the promised city view. But the next day Stacia upgraded our room to "executive," on a corner, with great views of half of the city _ at no extra cost. Joe, the person who helped us with the bags, is a hardworking guy full of useful info and ideas. And don't forget to try the $90,000 Volvo sedan, the hotel's shuttle, which can take you for free to the historic sites in the area. The guy driving it is a mine of information. To sum up our experience, Latham in Philadelphia is worth every cent of your money. Kudos to the management!
