“Very nice”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 21, 2012

Beautiful old hotel that has been renovated.Very nice decorated room. Even had a great sitting room next to lobby that we played cards in quite a bit. Cool work out room with view out onto the street. The biggest issue for the hotel is nothing they can control. The streets are extremely loud. Didn't have a great rest either night. Ear plugs would be a must and the hotel does not have any. Pretty quick service to get our car out. DId not try to use courtesy car. Restaurant was very expensive. 28$ for one person for breakfast.

Room Tip: Get as high off the street as you can. We were on 6 and it was still very loud.

Have stayed here several times and the place looks great since the renovations. They are conveniently located to great shopping, Rittenhouse Square, and great restaurants. Everyone working were gracious and eager to please. If you need car service, they provide an Audi for your trip. This hotel is reasonably priced and was running a great discount when we stayed. For the holidays, it is only a 5 minute walk to the PA ballet to catch "The Nutcracker." We will definitely be back.

We stayed for one night when the city was packed and oversold. The front desk staff worked and worked to get us a very early check in, in spite of being so busy. Extremely helpful, polite, friendly. The room was almost hip, clean and comfortable--great mattress, linens and pillows. In spite of being on the 5th floor over a busy street, we weren't bothered by traffic noise. I, too, found the lack of drinking glasses odd but it didn't ruin our stay. They should stock the room with more. Bell staff, front desk, driver for the courtesy car--all top notch. Our trip was quick and we had a lot of business away from the hotel so didn't visit the restaurant or use room service at all. This is a great location--we walked everywhere with one exception , and the driver was great. There was construction and a broken water main, both of which disrupted the time it took for valet parking. They sent a note to all the rooms explaining, and suggesting planning more time. Very thoughtful. An expensive new e-reader went missing somewhere during my visit. While they didn't find it in our room, two employees looked and made personal calls to me following up, telling me where they looked and apologizing. I would happily stay there again.

Room Tip: Don't be afraid of the lower floors--we were on the 5th and Sat. night traffic wasn't a both...

the good:
rooms are comfortable but bland
rooms were clean
some nice staff....some don't even acknowledge you are a guest or exist
great location
free wifi
in room coffee and iron board / iron...blow dryer too.

the not so good:
their courtesy car....called to use it..not available for most of the day....no driver
no drinking glasses of any kind in your room...weird...another reviewer pointed this out
door man while nice could not remember my name and I was there well over a week. if I know your name you should no mine. hotel 101
water pressure.....not so good.
it was raining...door man could clearly see I had no umbrella...how about offering me one??

tip...do not get a room in the hallway by the elevator unless you want to know who comes and goes, what they are saying at 6AM and the ring every time the elevator stops on your floor.

so with the good and the not good the Latham is just average...with a little effort the Latham could be a really good hotel.

Room Tip: anywhere away frm the elevator and main hallway

Stayed for one night. Nice room. Helpful staff; we left early and the desk person ran down the street to get us a cab.

Slightly strange - could not find drinking glasses in either the bedroom or the bathroom, just two paper cups for the coffee. I called down to ask and was told this was their policy although they did offer to send up a glass. .

Stayed at the Latham for a family wedding in Philly. Rooms were beyond expectation. Staff was helpful and quick to serve. LOVED the Audi transportation!! Since we are not familiar with the city, it was a Godsend for us while attending various functions for the wedding. Great shopping nearby as well. Will stay there again when in the area!

In connection with a visit to an exhibit at The Franklin Institute I was looking for a boutique hotel in center city Philadelphia. The two boutiques I wanted were booked; the Latham looked like a close second. Indeed, I would say it could be considered a quasi-boutique hotel. Probably what caught my eye was a fall price promotion, which seemed -- and was a good value. Regardless of its characterization it is in a marvelous location. The staff were friendly, professional and very accommodating. Rooms were a good size for an older city center hotel and were attractively appointed as well. The mattress and pillows, a critical test for me, were very comfortable. The Latham provides a courtesy car service within the center city area that worked well for us. Breakfast at the hotel was tasty, and the restaurant room provided a pleaant ambience. The Latham is a winner.
