“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

Nice little boutique hotel within walking distance of all the major sights. Authentic vintage hotel modestly priced in a great location. Independence Mall is just up the street. Three blocks from Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.Walking distance to Market Street and major shopping.
Very nice pleasant service plus complimentary breakfast and afternoon tea not found at the larger hotels up the street.

This well-appointed old but well-maintained boutique hotel was perfect for our visit to Philadelphia's Independence Park. The park was within easy walking distance from the hotel. Our room was very comfortable and quiet. The complimentary breakfast featured not only cold foods but also hot, freshly made scrambled eggs, sausages and waffles in a nice dining room setting.

The location is terrific as far as walking distance to the main attractions like The Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and Penn's Landing. It's also close to the #1 Big Bus Tours first starting point (which I used to see a lot of Phillie also.) Parking is an issue, however. And, the parking garage is like 1.5 blocks away. Fortunately, I had good weather. The parking garage also is laid out rather odd. No matter what floor you park on, you have to drive all the way up to the top to start going down. Tip: Just park on the top floor then and take the elevator up from the ground.

The hotel staff are very friendly. The hot morning breakfast had scrabbled eggs, sausages, etc. And, you are seated at real tables with place settings and linen as well. The old, historic architecture (it was a brewery in its day) gave it a lot of charm.

My room was small, like a bedroom in someone's home. I had no refrigerator. The A/C was central (no window unit) and quiet. But, my view was a wall. It didn't matter because I was gone all day anyway. It also ensured privacy that no one could stare from across the building, etc. The bedding was lame. Pillows were good, but the blanket issue was skimpy.

Taxis drive by all the time. So if you need one just go outside and wave!

The issue I had was with the water in the bathroom sink. It came out slow even when you turned the handle all the way. Another issue I had was the furniture arrangement. The TV set was situated on the side of the bed. Hard to lay in bed and watch TV when it's to the side of you and not straight ahead.

The hotel staff are very nice and friendly. But, when I made the reservation, they told me the price of the room per night but they failed to tell me about all the added taxes. So, for a two night stay, my bill was $70 more than they told me due to all the add ons.

And, right now, I've got double billing pending on my credit card (I suppose they do that to reserve the room and then do it when you check out. I just assume the first billing falls off and the final bill is what gets charged. I'm hoping anyway.

So, I gave it 4 stars based on all of this with the parking, water faucet pressure and TV set location being the items to knock off a star and prevent this from being 5 star hotel IMHO. However, I'd stay there again if I ever go back to Phillie.

Room Tip: I was in 504 and so the window viewed a wall.

Very noisy appliances, refrigerator and air conditioning, sloped floor felt like I was going to roll out of bed, made for poor nights sleep. Very poor service on arrival. Car Parking very difficult and some way from hotel, kind of happy it wasn't raining.

The room was comfortable. Close to the parking lot. The desk people were helpful and friendly.
The location to the main attractions was great. Everything was in walking distance. Coffee shops and eateries were nearby.

Room Tip: five floors. Try not to be next to the elevator.

This was the quietest hotel I ever stayed in. The pillows were perfect for sleeping. I loved the location, we were able to just park the car and be in the center of old city as we walked out of the hotel doors. The Free breakfast was great as was the atrium room you had it in. Great price too.

Rooms are a little small and could be updated but it was very clean, staff friendly and helpful and the breakfast buffet included every morning is great ! Nice touch with coffee and drinks and fruit in the lobby all day & cookies in the afternoon. Good location, too.
