“The Place for Jazz in Philly”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 20, 2012

I make the rounds of jazz clubs worldwide and this place is one of the best. Great jazz talent. Very intimate setting. Can interact w/ the artists. Food and beverages are also good. If you're into straight ahead jazz, go here!!!

“Super friendly, affordable, but kitchen overwhelmed.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 2, 2012

The host and the manager are super nice guys. We came by early and asked about tickets or reservations. They were all but full, but offered a side table in the bar area for half price. When we came back at showtime, the host remembered us, and took good care of us. The manager (i presume) came by later and made sure everything was okay. We watched them take great care of arranging tables and accommodating special requests.

Our waiter was young and in over his head. Very friendly and apologetic. Took a while to get our drinks, and even longer for desserts. The kitchen was out of one of only two desserts. The table next to us was two loud guys having a professional dinner. Quite disruptive. And they couldn't seem to get anything out of the kitchen either. Other tables were getting appetizers in decent time, but entrees were very slow and they seemed to be out of half of everything.

We were there for the music and chilling out. The Jump ZCity Orchestra was decent. But they played all Christmas themed music and I was quite tired of Christmas carols by now. (It was between Christmas and New Years.)

All in all, they tried really hard to make sure we had a good time. They get an A+ for effort. I didn't expect them to do anything about the noisy table who wasn't there for the music -- that's the risk you take going out to a club. The kitchen needs a lot of help. If you know the band and aren't expecting a great meal, it's a bargain, well worth the visit and you'll be well taken care of. Just don't expect fine dining service!
