For starters, I love the Phillies. It's easier to do now than when I was young. Ryan Howard, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Papelbon, Charlie Manuel and don't forget the best mascot in all sports - our beloved PHILLY PHANATIC.
It's a great baseball atmosphere. You can either go to your seat (all seats are great) and get into the game, hang with friends at McFadden's Bar (often featuring live music and big bar type crowds), enjoy quick food at the concession stands or sit and eat while watching the game at Harry The K's restaurant.
For local food, get the Crabby Fries at Chickie and Pete's stand (long lines but they move quickly), Cheese Steaks and Hoagies are also readily available. There is also a Schmitter Sandwich (for Mike Schmidt) which is an odd combination of steak and salami but it is delicious.
Some people stroll a boardwalk type atmosphere in the outfield along Ashburn Alley which includes the Phillies Hall Of Fame plaques, a Phillies history wall, many concession areas, the bullpen, and a few fun games to play like trivia and the Phanatic Run the Bases contest.
OK, big tip here for autograph hounds...
At the end of Ashburn Alley is the Bull's BBQ named for the Bull - Greg Luzinski. If you buy something at the Bull Souvenir area (Baseball, Rally Towel and so on) Greg Luzinski is sitting there and will sign almost anything during all home games! It's so great! He will typically show you his '80 World Series Championship ring if you ask.
Nice way to get a really great souvenir from a quality guy and great baseball player.
Philadelphia is the birthplace of Freedom. So grab a drink and sandwich, get in your seat and enjoy the best sport in America. Go Phils!!
