I was not at all pleased with this place. The food was just okay and not worth the time I spent in such a long line. The place is legendary and receives tons of visitors daily due to its highly public status. Most of the patrons are out of towners looking to experience the rivalry between pats and genos. The meat was a little too big for me and the service was horrible. I felt like we were being pushed through an assembly line. If you have never been to this place before, you will have no idea how to order and you will no doubt be treated like an idiot. We were first timers, and didn't really know that you order your sandwich at one window and your fries and drinks at another. The lady at the window was quite frustrated with us since we didn't know what we were doing. I certainly didn't appreciate that.
Aside from that, there was a serious undercurrent of racism. There was a sign that said when you order, order in English. That was a little bit weird for me. While I do speak English, I just felt a bit offended by that. Also, there was a bunch of hidden hatred against the Muslim community stemming from the killing a Philadelphia officer in the 70s or 80s.
All in all, this is a place that I can certainly skip.
