We recently made a trip back home to the Philly/South Jersey area. We took my 10 year old son down to The Italian Market to show him around. We had to get a hot pork sandwich while down there & Willie's was my place for 30+ years of my life, but with Willie's gone, we tried George's. Well, let me tell you, George's was just as good as Willie's ever was!
The pork was delicious & the hot peppers made it even better! My wife & I got the pork & my son got the Italian Sausage w/ fried onions. The Italian Sausage tasted like it came from Fiorella Bros. up the street, but even if it didn't, it was great sausage!!
The sandwiches cost $6.50 each + onions & peppers, but they were a 12" hoagie roll & well worth the price. We also got cream soda's, (Surprisingly, Stewart's, not Hank's???) that are, (as far as I'm concerned), a requirement to have with Hot Pork Sammys!!
To top it all off, we sat on a table on the sidewalk on the corner of 9th & Christian...TALK ABOUT FANTASTIC ATMOSPHERE! Can't get anymore "Philly" than that!
We WILL be back!!
