“My favorite quirky place to eat octopus.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2012

It's in South Philly. There's no parking. They don't take reservations. You bump elbows with the people at the next table. You have to wait at the bar of a different restaurant for your table and then they come get you! It may be one of the most inconvenient restaurant business models I've ever seen, but I keep going back because it's just that good. And just that fun. You must get the smelts! Yes, I said smelts.

“Great food, appalling service, major attitude problem.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 20, 2011 via mobile

Our party of 4 ate here on a quiet Sunday evening. Waitresses were inattentive and served us in a disgruntled fashion. We literally had our coffees dumped at us at the end of our meal. Great food but not worth it for the couldn't care less attitude. We won't be back.

“Tasty & Fun BYO”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 19, 2011

We had a great time here as a group and decided to order family style so we shared everything. The food was good and the service was friendly. Make sure you get a reservation though as they seem to fill up quickly. In this age of debit cards, please remember to bring good, old fashioned cash, as that's all they accept. Some of the small plates are phenomenal such as the meatballs, grilled vegetables and the grilled octopus. The desserts were great too and worth trying. It's a nice, tiny place with a loyal following and I will return.

“Simply prepared seafood”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 7, 2011

Don't go to Dmitri expecting anything other than seafood prepared in the Greek/Med style and you won't be disappointed. We had a 30 to 40 minute wait for a table. We left our wine with the hostess and went for a drink at the New Wave Cafe across the street. The hostess came to get us when our table was ready. By the time we made our way back across the street our bottle of wine was opened and on ice waiting for us. Nice touch. The menu at Dmitri is small and does not describe the appetizer or entree. If you want the details ask your server. We shared appetizers of octopus and hummus. The menu says 'Grilled Octopus' but it is served as a salad, chilled and marinated. In all fairness you could tell it was grilled before being made into the salad. However, we were both expecting warm just off the grill drizzled with olive oil octopus.
I had the seafood combo which consisted of a delicious broth with clams, mussels, scallops, shrimp calamari and tilapia. Not a fan of tilipia? Tell your server and you'll get a few extra clams and mussels. My husband had the grilled lamb. He thought is was slightly overcooked, I thought it was perfect. We both were served sauteed escarole and rice as our sides, plentiful but not too flavorful. Overall we enjoyed our dinner here and know what to expect the next time we return.

“same old reliable and fantastic food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

Been to Dmitri's (3rd street) for almost 20 years, first when lived in Philly, then occasionally while passing by. They just get better with the years... excellent food, efficient service, great Philly atmosphere. The baba is fabulous. sea-food dishes fresh, nicely-cooked (in front of you!, no hidden surprises in the kitchen...). Only the desert (caramel flan) was little weak... Looking forward to great dinners in the next 20 years!
