“Good simple Italian food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2012 via mobile

Stumbled by this place while looking for a late night meal. They were surprisingly open and once we noticed all the zagat ratings we decided to give it a try. The service was good from the start. I wasn't really impressed by the menu but once the server named all of the specials I became more interested. We tried the striped bass, which was excellent and the seafood pasta, which was good. I like that it is BYOB also.

What I didn't like was that it was cash only and I found the outdoor seating on the sidewalk a bit akward. The seating arrangement is way too close together and the chairs are old and difficult to maneuver. I agree with a previous reviewer about the meal being quick. Therefore I would only return if I was looking to eat great food but in a rush. This is the perfect spot to hit up prior to a night out on the town when your time is limited.

“Great dinner - go early or make reservation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2012

Always dine here on each of our visit to Philly the last few years, and always happy with the food and service. Just go early for dinner, without reservation at peak dinner hours will be a long wait. BYOB, they can even chill your white wine..try their specials. Prefer indoor dining, al fresco is on the side walk or the driveway, not impressed.

“BYO! -Cash only - Beautiful traditional Italian food in lovely old house with youthful vibe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

This is a really reasonably priced, lovely setting with a lot of great house made dishes. The BYO policy really makes it a deal. The appetizers were fun, veal very light and steak also very good. The gnocchi was a bit heavy but housemade tomato sauce was divine. There is outside dining, but we were inside on a hot steamy Philly night and it was cool and refreshing. Good service, no complaints I should mention that reservations are important and many of the diners were young -30's, but not noisy even with large very well behaved groups. Really well managed.

“Very good food, ambiance need improvement.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2012 via mobile

I had lunch at La Viola. The restaurant needs some improvement to create a better ambiance. The food was very good even though my risotto was a bit overcooked the flavors were right! Try their home-made mozzarella, I thought it was excellent. Very good food, I'll be back.

“Almost too good to tell”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2012

I was hesitant tomwrite this review because I fell in love with this place. Amazing food? Check. Attentive, friendly service? Check. Reasonable prices? Check. Check.

It was a delight tomeat there. The spagetti w truffle oil, olives, tomatoes and shrimp- delicious. Whole wheat pasta. Mangia.

The desserts were refresjing as well - coconut sorbet and the tartufo. Tey are both homemade. Yummy and light.

Its BYOB and cash only. Three people- 2 appetizers, three dishes, and two desserts- $84. Not bad and its helpful since it is cash only.

Will def be back the next time Im in town.
