“Amazing Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 12, 2014

We showed up on Saturday night at 9:00 pm without a reservation and were lucky enough to get a table. We had the grilled calamari (usually we have this fried, but this is actually our favorite way to have it now) I had at shrimp and crab meat linguine in a red sauce. It was light enough that i did get stuffed in one fork full but there was a good portion size. The shrimp were large and grilled; there was a good amount a loose crab meat in the dish. We will definitely go back. They also have a full bar.

“Amazing sauces!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

Went with a group of 7. The restaurant has several rooms and has no issues seating larger groups. That being said resevations reccomended.

Everything we had was very good but the best two because of the amazing homemade sauces were: Penne Spasso and the Stuffed Pork Chop.

The portions are huge so come hungry!

“Perfect Italian - but no pizza!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2014

Have visited Philly many times and was looking for a new restaurant that would be teen-friendly. Last time we went to
Maggiano's but it's a chain. Spasso was the ticket! Right by the river, it's a huge restaurant with cool decor and great food. We did have to pay $20 for parking in the adjacent lot but I suspect with a little more research and walking you could reduce that. Spasso itself is a great value - large homemade dishes for $13-$20. We spent more, $200 for 5 people including tip, drinks and dessert, but that was very fair for what we ordered. There are a lot of recognizable Italian classics on the menu, e.g. bruschetta appetizer, chicken parmigiana and tiramisu dessert. You can also branch out to try new dishes. My son had a balsamic chicken we all really liked. The arancini appetizer was a major croud pleaser too, and I loved the fusilli lunghi. We also all enjoyed the decor which is casual but creative with murals and other unusual artwork.

“Underwhelming”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

Having read all the positive reviews I was expecting something special, but in my view it's your basic middle-of-the road Italian restaurant. The food was decent but completely unremarkable, nothing to set it apart from the fare at countless other places. Overpriced for what it is. Plus our waitress was distracted and not particularly courteous -- having a bad day maybe?

“Mixed experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 4, 2014

Very good service. Attentive and our server was quite attentive to me wife's special requests. Food was nice but nothing special - I had a pasta with veal ragu dish where the veal was very tough and some of the pasta was so mis-cooked it was crispy.

Most serious problem was that we were seated next to a party of 22 celebrating a birthday. Despite being in a public area this group acted as if they were in a private room standing around my table talking over my head and repeatedly bumping my chair. Very unpleasant.
