“Elegant but cozy with great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 7, 2014

I loved this hotel. Smallish rooms, elegantly furnished but decorated with playful and unexpected details. Quiet and serene. Great location if you want to explore historical Philadelphia. Lots of great restaurants in walking distance as well.

The devil's in the details, said somebody. Makes it sound worse than it should, as the details, especially the unexpected ones, are what makes the design here so great. Thanks for noticing and thanks for staying.

Happy travels -

We recently hosted our wedding at the Hotel Monaco in Stratus Rooftop Lounge located on the 11th floor. We wanted a non traditional setting that invited our guests to eat, drink, and mingle throughout the afternoon. Stratus Lounge is a beautiful event space that provided everything we were looking for from the delicious food, tasty cocktails, and friendly service. The weather was perfect that day so we could have the ceremony outside, but I am confident that if the weather did not cooperate, the day would have went just as well due to the layout of Stratus that is partially indoors and outdoors. We worked with Sasha Bharrat, Catering Sales Manager, who made it very easy in the planning process and who was also available the day of the wedding making sure that the afternoon went smoothly. The hotel itself is in a great location in Old City Philadelphia close to most of the city's historical sites, shops, restaurants, and after party bars. Upon arrival, the bell staff and front desk teams made check in and check out quick and easy and with a smile. Andrew Terranova, the Concierge, is a delight and made me feel like a VIP Bride during my stay. All of the housekeeping staff that helped us with extra amenities that were requested arrived quickly to our room and were very friendly. The guest rooms and lobby of the hotel are beautiful and clean. Overall, our experience at the Hotel Monaco was perfect!

Congratulations and thank you! We are thrilled we could be there at the start (or at least the start of your official union together). Hopefully we will see you more along the way.

Best wishes -

A great downtown location coupled to a very classy hotel. Nice lounge off the reception for a night cap. Very close to Walnut St. For shopping and Rittenhouse Square for eating (highly recommend Parc for brunch).

Downtown Philadelphia is so accessible by foot, anywhere is reachable within a 30 minute stroll. Of course, more is reachable within the Old City neighborhood than most places, which is great for us and our guests.

Thank you for choosing us.

Hotel Monaco is right next to Independence Hall. It's an easy walk to Old Town and new town. Plus it is a really fun place to stay. It's quirky, a little different than the average hotel. The colors and decor are probably not what you want in your house, but they make the place more lively for a visit. The rooms are not huge, but adequate. Staff is friendly and helpful. They have free bicycles to borrow. Philadelphia is a wonderful city to visit and the Hotel Monoco adds to the charm.

It would definitely be a bold homeowner to decorate a la the Monaco!

The bike program has been a tremendous hit (sometimes coming with a wait list). Philadelphia is one of the top biking cities in the country as it sounds like you were able to discover. Thank you for staying with us.

I walked into the corner room over looking independence hall, and honestly thought I had the best hotel room in Philly. The bathroom, the bed, the decor the view. All perfect. Great staff and great on premise dining and bar as well. Overall I would say currently the best hotel experience in Philadelphia!

My husband and I stayed here this past weekend for our one year wedding anniversary. Employees were extremely knowledgable, professional and personable. After asking about our visit, we mentioned our anniversary. We were in our room for less than 5 minutes when they knocked at the door with champagne & strawberries and a very sweet note. The room was BEAUTIFUL, spacious and in mint condition. The park view didn’t hurt either. The next morning, we texted the valet to bring our car around. At check out, the concierge recommended a number of great brunch spots in the city. When we got out to the valet, we waited less than 5 minutes for our car, despite just texting (it recommended to text 20 minutes ahead of time). The employee that handled our luggage was hilarious and sent us off in hysterics. We had such a positive experience and will continue to stay at the Monaco when in Philadelphia.

Room Tip: Take a park view if you can :)

Happy belated anniversary. Thank you for celebrating with us. Sounds like a great weekend! The Sunday show is completely different than the Monday show, so be sure to come back for more comedy stylings of our door team.

Cheers -

We stayed here for our nephew's wedding and it was our first time in a Klimpton hotel so now that we've stayed in one we will know next time what to ask for and perhaps that will improve our experience. On the plus side the room was very spacious, with a great view of the Liberty Bell and right in the middle of the historical sights. The concierge contacted us before our stay to ask if we had any special requests which was very nice and moved us to a larger room so we would have more space for the 4 of us(travelling with kids) when safety regulations prevented them from putting a roll away bed in our room. We really appreciated that. There is a very nice meeting area in the lobby. The hotel uses the Red Owl Tavern for breakfast etc, which is attached to the hotel, with an entry from the lobby so it seems like it is part of the hotel. We ate breakfast there and it was delicious. However our second morning there also happened to be Mothers Day and we were unable to get a table for breakfast(without a 45 minute wait). We felt it would be better if the tavern reserved some tables for hotel guests only during breakfast. Some of our friends took breakfast to go, some ate at the bar. We ate at the bar, when seats finally opened up. My other negative would be the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room. We searched through all the literature in the room and could find nothing on tea and coffee other than ordering it from room service for an exorbitant sum. I got a cup to go from the Red Owl tavern in the end. However when we were checking out the clerk asked how our stay was and when I mentioned the lack of tea/coffee making facilities in the room he said we had to call ahead for that and directions to doing this were in the room...which they weren't. He was very snippy in his tone when he told us about this. When my husband then mentioned the trouble we had had getting a table to eat breakfast that morning he was again very snippy saying we had been told upon check in to make a reservation, to which my husband said no we weren't ...and we got a snippy insistence from the clerk that we had. So I guess a little front desk training would help. Everyone else was very nice, friendly and helpful. Very friendly doormen/car valet, though we thought $40 a night for parking was a bit steep. Overall a nice hotel, but they make you ask for everything.

Thank you for finally choosing a Kimpton hotel. We're disappointed your experience wasn't up to our par but buoyed by the fact that your problems are very fixable. Regarding Red Owl, we do hold aside tables for guests, unfortunately on weekends, especially holiday weekends, those tables are grabbed very quickly. Their bottomless bellinis are a huge draw! For quicker coffee service in your room, we do provide coffeemakers by request. We also provide non-snippy answers, contrary to what you experienced. That is not acceptable (or typical for that matter). Next time, hopefully the only question you will have to ask is "do we have to leave already?".
