“great getaway-wonderful and caring hotel staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2013

My husband and I just enjoyed a three-night getaway in Philadelphia. We stayed at the Hotel Monaco and found the staff to be outstanding-with particular kudos of Brian (concierge) and Kristi at the front desk. Brian was in email contact with me, even when not in the hotel.
The Monaco is particularly friendly, hip and the 5 PM complementary wine-tastings are a fun way to get to know people and enjoy a glass of wine in front of the fire.
We'll be back!

This Kimpton property is really nice and just a half block from the Liberty Bell. I especially liked the Stratus rooftop bar.
The lobby is very attractive and rooms are well appointed. We had an event on the main floor and it was truly top notch. Service is excellent and we felt very well cared for. We also loved the cocktail hour in the lobby.

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Monaco in Philadelphia in the summer of 2013. The hotel itself is freshly renovated, but the building is nearly 100 years old. The architecture is beautiful. The staff was super courteous, and the hotel offers free wine in the afternoon. It is about 100 yards from the Liberty Bell, and even closer to Independence Hall. You can walk to any place you like, and the subway is only a block away. We took the subway to a Phillies game, and went to the train station and went to Atlantic City for the day. Restaurants are close by, and carriage rides and bus sightseeing tours begin and end one block away. If you go during the month of your birthday there are special rates and gifts available. Our room looked out over the Liberty Bell and we could hear the tower bell in Independence Hall every hour, since we were only 100 yards away. We have never stayed in a hotel with a better location, friendlier staff or more charming building.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Liberty Bell.

We selected this hotel based on its TA reviews and we found that the positive reviews were warranted. We were very interested in the Old Philadelphia history, and you can’t find a better location for this than the Hotel Monaco. It is across the street from Independence Hall and the Independence National Historic Park, right in the middle of Old Philadelphia. I would describe the hotel’s décor as very hip and artistic. We found that every employee was highly professional and friendly, and provided a very high level of service. The rooms are good sized, quiet and very nice high-end bedding. We tried both the rooftop bar and the first floor restaurant and found both to be very good. There are a couple of reasons why I would give this hotel 4 instead of 5 stars. The first room we were given spelled of cigarette smoke. We declined the room and were immediately given another with no delay. Although the second room was generally clean, there were a number of little things missed by housekeeping that were annoying (no soap, light bulb out, no spare toilet paper, safe locked shut). All of these things were rectified within 20 minutes, but we were surprised to find the issues at all. The last issue is one that is a pet peeve of mine. This very hip hotel has fallen prey to the fad that many places have fallen to in the past 10 years, and that is that they play music much too loud in the bars and restaurants. The music is not in the background but in the foreground such that you have to raise your voice to talk over it to others at your table. I complained to the bar manager but was told that this is what most of the people want (which I don’t believe). I was disappointed with his weak response. Despite these minor issues, this is a very nice, high service hotel, where we will stay again on our next trip to Philadelphia.

We are officially dumping hilton doubletree in Philly in favor of Monaco for all future stays. The hotel decor is fun, and more importantly the staff seems educated and trained in hospitality. The mini bar had healthy, organic snacks. The robes were fun (leopard and rocky themed). Breakfast at the red owl tavern was AMAZING! It was pricey at $55 for two people but we had tofu scramble, fresh fruit, potatoes, coffee with soy milk, and fresh OJ.

Stayed at the relatively new Hotel Monaco in Philadelphia this weekend.. Very enjoyable! The decorating is fun, very eclectic and a delight. My daughters wedding party all stayed here and we were well treated, enjoyed the stratosphere lounge and the red owl tavern, and relaxed in very comfortable rooms. Never made it to the gym, between rehearsal dinner and wedding reception wasn't up for it! Not much of a view if you are on the inside, but the view on the mall is super.
Excellent elevator service.. Unique layout.

This is the third Kimpton we have stayed at and we were well satisfied with all three .

Room Tip: Pay for the independence mall view....

Clean room. Everything I expect in a stay and more. Front desk was friendly and helpful...even during the craziness of the Philly marathon and a wedding. Rooms were very quiet. Not once did I here anyone around me.
