Stayed two nights in two rooms over Independence Day weekend. The hotel is perfectly located for sightseeing the old city in Philadelphia! Right next to the constitution park and liberty bell, with many historical sights nearby. Rooms are nicely furnished with a wild splash of various bold patterns and yellow/blue themed colors.
The first impression was terrible; I said I am here to check in", the staff replied, "let me have you drivers license & credit card". What the ? I have never been greeted by such a rude remark at any hotels! She toned down, maybe after seeing my shocked frown, and was more presentable afterwards. She tried to work our room requests for awhile and finally found two rooms with two beds on the same floor.
Housekeeping left a sweet note for the tip, but the room was not vacuumed thoroughly. Hairs were found around bathtub, lots of dust still on the floor.
The hotel offers 5-6 pm wine & Sangria happy hour. The wines were so acidic that they were not drinkable. Sangria too sweet. We went to the bar the first night instead; the drink was sweet and lacking much alcohol. We also had a poor dinner service at the same Owl Tavern, reviewed under restaurant. We decided to eat elsewhere after first night's dinner. But it does offer refeeshing cold fruit scented water throughout the day and morning coffee in the lobby; there is no in-room coffee maker.
We needed to be somewhere the second day morning. Due to the weekend events, some of the roads near hotel were closed and the hotel gave out notes requesting that valeted cars be requested the night before. So my husband requested the car the night before and when he woke up in the morning, to be picked up at 10:15 am. Well, he still had to request the car(they hadn't done anything!) and wait for over 20 minutes for the car! This is after they charge $40/nt with supposedly in& out privileges. We decided to park at another lot for the second night after this pathetic service. The lot right under the independence park (off the 5th st) only costs $18 for 24 hrs.
The hotel charges $10 plus/day for wireless room service, $8/15 min for business center use with $2 per page for printing. They nickle & dime you, get away with less than ideal service. The location may make up for some of these mishaps but overall, not enough to make up for its many shortcomings. Great location, not so great service. May suit the tourists but not so for business travelers or those seeking serious service and comfort.
