Owner description: The Barnes Foundation houses one of the finest collections of nineteenth- and twentieth-century French painting in the world. An extraordinary number of masterpieces by Renoir, Cezanne and Matisse provide a depth of work by these artists that is unavailable elsewhere. Established as an educational institution, the Barnes carries out its mission teaching classes in its galleries and Arboretum.

“Amazing collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

Our first trip to the new Barnes. The galleries are just like the originals in Merion. Dr. Barnes was an amazing collector of a period that featured incredible masters. Cezanne, Manet, Monet, Renoir, early Picassos displayed beautifully.

“One of the best museums I have ever visited in the world!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2013

The layout was spectacular. I actually tired of all of the Renoirs and Cezannes - mostly kidding! It was a must for anyone who even likes art. Had been on my bucket list for years and now that it's in Philadelphia I actually was able to visit it.

“This is a must see!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2013

They moved the paintings from Merion to a new building right on Ben Franklin Parkway next to the Rodin museum and down the street from the Philly Museum of Art. They also hung the painting jsut as Dr. Barnes had them hung when he died. I believe there are more Renoir paintings here than anywhere else outside of FRance - beautiful!

“Do not miss this unique collection”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Although the will of the founder, Albert Barnes, was set aside in order to move to downtown Philadelphia, this treasure has the world's largest collection of paintings by Renoir as well a substantial holdings of Cezanne, Matisse and Picasso in addition to many Modiglianis and Rousseaus.
The collection was undertaken by a man with a purpose. This collection is not to be missed and requires hours to go through, even at a quick pace.
Book your tickets in advance. Closed Tuesdays.

“Don't miss the Barnes”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

Fabulous collection with quirky standards due to the size of the galleried but well worth it. Unless you have a reservation, it is likely that all the timed tickets are sold out. They don't mention this strongly enough on their website.
