“Great accomodations but iffy service...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

I've been a member for over 20 years and I love the place but the service needs to be taken up a bit. The phone manners of the staff I've dealt with are less than expected and the staff in the restaurant at breakfast has been sub-par the last three times I've been there. From staff gathering at the hostess stand to chit chat while my coffee cup sits empty to 3 staff working on silverware and glassware ignoring the guests to the point I got up and retrieved the coffee pot myself. It's a shame. Seems like a bunch on 20 years olds working and nobody training them or looking after them.

Room Tip: The rooms are a bit smallish but for under $150 around the corner from the Ritz Carlton at $495 a ni...

“Formal and Friendly”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

We stayed at The Inn At The Union League for a wedding in December and mostly loved it. While the rooms were not what you'd call modern, they were comfortable. The service at the fitness center was outstanding and the hotel staff was friendly and helpful. They saved me a bunch of money by setting me up with a private cab for a trip out to the suburbs. There were 2 or 3 different bars, including a cigar bar, and there were 2 lunch and dinner restaurants which were, unfortunately, booked solid. However the concierge took good care of us and arranged an excellent meal for us at Davios. The location was excellent with many great restaurants within walking distance. It was also very reasonably priced. The coat and tie requirement for the 2nd floor was different but made for a nice atmosphere.

Room Tip: Ask to be told the exact kind of room you are getting. Some are larger and nicer than others.

“Not the most helpful”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

My husband is handicapped & when the cab driver left us off at the front door with its massive steps we were a bit put off....a staff member standing near the huge doorway inside told us that the correct way to enter was off the side entrance....wish the cab driver had known as that was the address given to us & evidentally not the correct one. There was no offer to help us with the bags & getting to the right area for check-in! It was a 'do it on your own'.....
Other than that less than grand reception, our room was very roomy & nice - the drapes were closed for a reason - NO VIEW! The appointments were all right, but with the lights off the room became very dreary! The floor staff were friendly & accommodating, & I found out later - no tipping required. Breakfast was very good once we found that it was 'seat yourself'. Dinner was in a banquet room & very good...
Our wkend was with a reunion group so we had lots of time to 'catch-up' with memories of the '60's.
Be sure to tell the staff when you are calling in to reserve that one of you is handicapped. It maybe that you will need them when entering as there are a few steps.

Room Tip: If the drapes are closed - they are closed due to NO VIEW! Check with staff if you are dissatisfied...

“Great way to experience the best club in America”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 24, 2012

The Union League of Philadelphia has been modernized over the last 15 years and is now a vibrant and highly enjoyable urban oasis. Getting into the inn requires either reservations by a member or making use of a reciprocal agreement from a club you or someone else may already belong to. In the bad old days this was a fairly non-diverse and dying institution. That has changed and the inn now has a variety of great restaurants - in particular 1862 which may be the best restaurant in the city - a health club and floors of wonderfully restored period rooms. The room that I stayed in was comfortable but not overly luxurious. This is, though, not a place where you want to hang out in your room but really a place

“Beautiful old world hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

We stayed here for a convention, and just loved the place. It has a very unique old world charm. Since this is an older place, the rooms are small, but impeccably appointed. The bed was a little soft for my tastes, but still everything you need in the room. Great old charm to the entire property, and the location for our purposes was awesome - close to so many historical sites. The cigar bar was by far the best place to just relax and have a drink. The formal restaurant provided a well complemented breakfast each morning. Evyerone was very nice, respectful of the hotel & its history, and of the guests! Enjoyed and will remember this stay and experience for a long time to come.
