“A diamond in the rough”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2014

This was my first stay at a Residence Inn and definitely not my last! It's more of a long term rental but I think a great alternative to even a hotel suite.

ATMOSPHERE:
It's a simple lobby area, but what makes this place shine are the location, amenities, and rooms. It's located near City Hall, meaning close to the SEPTA train line to the airport, Reading Terminal Market & station, shopping & tons of restaurants. There's a convenient 24-hour 7Eleven right next door.

ROOM:
It's very clean and laid out like a small apartment. There's a small kitchenette with stand up refrigerator & freezer with ice maker, 2 burner stove top, sink, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, pots, pans, cups, plates, utensils, knives, cutting board, can & bottle openers, corkscrew, measuring spoons, and paper towels. So convenient!? My only gripe is that the a/c temperature couldn't be adjusted. The numbers changed on the thermostat but the air just blew really cold. I had control of the fan speed only.

The living room shares the room with the kitchenette and has a small dining table with 2 chairs, pullout sofa, single sofa, desk, coffee table, and flat panel HDTV.

The bedroom has another flat panel HDTV with a comfy double bed & closet with iron & board.

The bathroom has one sink and a separate water closet with a shower/tub with great water pressure and quick drain, and mounted hair dryer.

SERVICE:
Bell men & front desk staff were friendly & helpful.

I stayed here for a business trip because my usual choices were sold out. The one bedroom suite was functional but a limitless small and dated. The service was fine and the free breakfast $ evening snack were a nice bonus. The rate was comparable to the full service hotel rates I usually pay so it was a decent value all things considered.

Arrived early and they got us into an upgraded room 5.5 hours early. Hotel staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. Room was very clean and comfortable. We look forward to returning to this hotel next time we are in Philadelphia.

The location was convenient and close to Reading Terminal Market. Also a nice walk to local neighborhoods and attractions.

A great deal for the cost!

Great location and value. There was not one unfriendly face. The staff went out of their way to make my 80 year old mother comfortable and to feel special. The breakfast dining staff and cooks were very engaging. The front desk staff and porters were very attentive. Housekeeping responded quickly to our needs. Overall, for the dollars, we were very pleased.

This is about 25 stories and airconditioned. Kitchen facility hotel with all windows closed. The air quality inside the building was suffocating. The comforter was not enclosed in a duvet. The comforters are not washed for every guest and not enclosing in a cover is a hygiene violation. The location is very good and the exterior looks good.

Room Tip: Would not stay here

Green Features: Nothing that I observed. The building smells of cleaning chemicals.

Dear jajacob,

Thank you for taking the time in filling out comments regarding your stay at the hotel. Unfortunately when the hotel was built it didn't have the ability to have windows that opened due to being a 26 story hotel. Very sorry that you felt the air quality was not so good. All of the linen is sent out by our outside linen service. Marriott removed duvets off the bed last year due to guests commenting that they didn't want them on the beds anymore. If you would like to talk more about your stay don't hesitate in calling 1-215-982-7930 to go over.

Sincerely Ed F

Stayed here for a week and service was fantastic. Hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast and evening meals were great. Great location for seeing all the rich history of the city. Could walk to almost anywhere in the city.

Room Tip: Ask for high room to cut street noise

This hotel was pretty much what I expected of it, the room was a nice small room without the full kitchen (1515, which was what I booked, no complaints there). There were two things that displeased me on this trip:
Firstly, there were clearly some water issues as to flush the toilet required _at least_ 2 flushes, sometimes 3, no matter the contents. This was an inconvenience, but nothing more than that.
Secondly, and more pressingly (no pun intended), when I went to iron my shorts, the iron left a black stain on them, due to some residue on the iron itself. Certainly I should have taken a careful look at the iron before using it, but at the same time, I think it is reasonable to expect a hotel of the Marriott's standards to provide its guests with products that won't ruin their clothes. I was here on business and am glad it was "only" a pair of shorts that are ruines and not a dress shirt or suit pants. When I told the gentleman at the front desk, he seemed a bit flustered, then said, "I'll send up a new iron right away." Nice, and useful for the rest of my trip, but it doesn't really resolve the ruined shorts.

The location was great, right across from City Hall, walking distance to every major public transportation line (subway and tram lines, buses, both PATCO and SEPTA right out the door; 3 blocks from the Convention Center/Market East station with the regional rail to the suburbs) and tons of great dining within a short walk.

Overall, I'd probably stay here again, but wouldn't hesitate to try somewhere else either.

Dear Sixtens Pappa,

Thanks for the comments regarding your recent stay with us. Very sorry that the iron you used for your pants damaged them. I would like if you could contact me at the hotel directly at 1-215-982-7930 at your earliest convenience. There is an inspection process that should have caught this prior to you using the iron and we failed to catch this. Again very sorry and hopefully we can rectify this situation after speaking with you.

Sincerely, Ed F General Manager
