“Good for the most part”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2013

This is a comfortable hotel - the rooms are well-sized and have attractive bathrooms. Winthorpe and Valentine, the bar/restaurant off the lobby, serves a good range of tasty and well-presented snacks and has a nice range of wines by the glass.
There were a couple of irritations with my stay: -
Firstly, when I went for a work-out in the gym, it was too warm and there were no fans. It was 90 degrees and humid outside but when I set the air-conditioning to 63 degrees (I was the only person in the gym at the time), it spectacularly failed to respond. I had to abandon my treadmill workout after 20 minutes as I was drenched in sweat and completely overheating. I had managed an identical workout in the Westin Pittsburgh a couple of nights before, even though the weather conditions outside were similar, thanks to functioning air-conditioning and the availability of fans. Come on, Westin: this isn't hard to get right and many business travelers really appreciate good work-out facilities (starting with being able to exercise at the appropriate temperature).
Secondly, and a much more minor niggle: I really appreciate Westin properties where plugs for, say, recharging phones, laptops, etc. are conveniently located - the lamps with 4 outlets are a terrific idea. In my room, I had to struggle to get my hand between the wall and the (heavy) desk to insert plugs into the outlets.
Otherwise, I had a very good night's sleep here. Staff were all great and the location is excellent.

We had such a great experience!!! The rooms were clean, comfortable and relaxing. The staff was friendly and helpful. They even stamped and sent our postcard out free of charge! The gentlemen at the valet were so helpful with directions and guidance. We'd only stay here the next time we're in Philly!

We stayed here for two nights after college visits nearby to visit some of the historical attractions. Location was great --it was a fairly easy walk to Independence Mall-and lots of good dining options for dinner within walking distance. Front desk staff was "average"--got in and out quickly but didn't feel particularly "welcomed" by the desk attendant (who didn't even acknowledge my gold membership as I've become accustomed to). Westin beds were, as usual, "heavenly" and there was not any significant street noise. It was a bit annoying to have to take elevator from street to lobby and then transfer to get to rooms--but a relatively minor inconvenience for the great location. Perhaps a little below what I've come to expect from Westin properties, but certainly fit the bill for this non-luxury trip!

This hotel is in a great location downtown, but keep in mind it is downtown so you will pay the price for convenience. I stayed and was able to walk to some of the local areas on my agenda and also cabs are everywhere and they are cheap so it's no problem to hop in one and head wherever you'd like. I was there for a bachelor party and there was no problem hailing multiple cabs when needed. The valet guys out front would run down and whistle at cabs with a quickness.

CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT/STAFF

The check-in was pretty quick without problems. The check-out was not as smooth considering the man checking me out gave me unnecessary lip and made it out to be a big deal that at first I did not want a printed copy of my bill, but then I changed my mind. Other than his rudeness, the rest of the staff friendly. I ran into the concierge on the elevator and she struck up a conversation. She gave me her card and said if I needed anything while at the hotel to simply get in touch with her. I wish I could remember her name as she made me feel welcome.

ROOMS (531, 533, 1525)

Rooms 531 and 533 were you're average hotel rooms. The guys staying in those rooms expressed no major issues. Room 1525 was a suite. The room was a pretty decent size, 742 square feet, I believe? There was a king bed, a pull-out couch, a desk and chair, sofa chair, another couple chairs with an ottoman and table, dresser, 2 night stands, closet, more storage cabinets, 2 TVs, mini-bar fridge with no room for personal space, iron and board, in-room safe, plenty of outlets, 1 1/2 bathrooms including a shower and a separate tub. There were also a couple nice big windows with a view of the city. The air conditioning was functional but it never seemed to cool down the room enough.

GYM/SAUNA/LOCKER ROOM

The gym is on the 4th floor. It's not a terrible gym but it also isn't one of the bigger ones I've seen. It contained dumbbells from 5 to 50 pounds, 2 adjustable benches, 3 ellipticals, 4 treadmills, 1 bicycle, and 3 other weight machines. There were also a couple ab balls and stretch bands. There were a couple big windows in the gym...although the view wasn't anything spectacular, having natural light coming into the gym makes a huge difference and is definitely a plus. There was a sauna in the locker room, but it was off. I'm not sure if it was non operational or if you have to turn it on yourself. The locker room was a pretty nice size with lockers and a restroom and showers.

we spent 5 nights here with our 7 year old. everyone was very helpful and super friendly. The location was great - walking distance (or PHLASH trolly distance) from anywhere you want to go. The one thing that was sortof annoying whenever you wanted to run downstairs was that there are 2 elevators. the first goes to the lobby and then you walk through the lobby to the elevator that goes to the rooms...

Hotel is very nice and is very clean. I stayed there last week with friends and we had a great time. The rooms were very nice and roomy. The hotel staff was great and check in was quick! They have a nice workout room, fresh towels and the lobby has water with fruit inside.

Room Tip: Higher floors are great!

This hotel is well situated in the heart of downtown Philadelphia. The staff are not only attentive but helpful. The rooms are spacious and the beds very comfortable. However, if you decide to stay here, go out to eat. The restaurant is a major letdown.
