“Think "Cruise Cabin"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2012

The Club Quarters in Philly is in a GREAT location at a value price. That said, think through your options before finalizing on this one.

The rooms are VERY small. The room size was literally the same size as the last cruise cabin we had (balcony room on Carnival Cruise Lines), although to be fair, the bathroom had maybe 1-2 more sq ft. However, the cruise cabin had more closet space and more drawer space. I was travelling with my wife for the week, and we could not open both of our suitcases at the same time and still be able to walk from the bed to the bathroom.

The bed is advertised as a queen, and although it is bigger than a full, it seemed to be smaller than a queen. I'm not sure if it is a custom or european size or something. I wish I had brought a tape measure.

Also, the rooms are very noisy. Every time the phone rang in the room next door, we could clearly hear it. Sounds from the hallway also easily entered the room.

The staff are friendly most of the time. One morning they ran out of coffee in the lobby. I stopped by the front desk to let them know and they just gave me a blank stare without a response. I repeated myself, in a kind tone, and still got just the blank stare.

On the plus side, check in was a breeze using their automated system; The workout room was basic but sufficient; The self-serve water bottle stations were a nice addition.

If you are looking for a value hotel in a great part of Philly, this could be just the spot. If you are looking for anything remotely luxurious or spacious, this is not the place.

Room Tip: Looking at the floorplan map, it looks like not all of the rooms are same size. While they have &quo...

checking in is a hassle because there is no drop off space but the street and no bellman. Very hard to do unless you have someone to watch the luggage, catch the elevator to the lobby find out what's up, etc. Other than that, it was just fine. 3 of us stayed 5 nights and could cook for ourselves without too much trouble. I'd stay again.

For Labor Day weekend, we booked a room at the Club Quarters in Philadelphia. The Club Quarters advertised a decent rate and a great location. Let's start with our check-in. The front desk isn't overwhelmingly accomodating. Understanding that it was a busy weekend, my thought would be that you would be prepared for the crowd. At any rate, I digress.

CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT: Because we arrived at different times, the front desk staff had a hard time with our check-in. Names were removed, additional unadvertised fees were attached to our bill and no one could figure out how much we owed. It was a good thing that we kept our confirmation from our online reservation as a means of disputing the charges.

ROOMS: Our room did not have a bathtub and the small window faced an adjacent building and was partially hidden behind a wall. The rooms only had queen-sized beds and were VERY small. Think about it this way: don't plan to do push-ups or any exercising in these rooms, as you will definitely be bruised from hitting your limbs on the furniture. The size of the rooms encouraged us to stay out as late as possible and leave early in the mornings. We looked at it as MOTIVATION.

OVERALL: Stay here if: (1) You are on a quick trip to Philadelphia and you don't want to rent a car, (2) If you are traveling alone or you are VERY close with the people in your travel group (translation: you don't mind living in a box for a few days), (3) you want to stay in a trendy Philadelphia neighborhood

I grabbed a last minute deal for an overnight and found this place a great find. Very well situated a few blocks from both north-south and east-west subway lines. In the middle of shopping justa few blocks from Rittenburg Square. Davios, a well known northern Italian restaurant, is adjacent and provides limited roon service, which is very convenient. I had a single which was not an "executive" room but had plenty of room for me and my things. Rooms were clean and well appointed but not over the top very decent work set up with bright desk light and decent work surface. Flat screen tv pulled out for bed viewing. When I discovered I did not have a bath towel I asked and they brought two. Wonderful young staff. Highly recommend.

Room Tip: Ask fora room not facing the main drag for a quiet sleep. Mm

I arrived and was ignored by three staff at the desk for quite a while when I was the only guess waiting. I was rudely checked in and went up to my very small room without a window, a working hair dryer and a TV that is not visible from the bed of a very small room. The TV was the size of a computer monitor. It was loud, full of kids and sketchy looking clientele. The urban setting was also not safe to walk at night alone as a woman. Did not sleep well because of sirens, loud people and uncomfortable bed. I usually travel well, but I am not a traveler that wants to stay at Super 8, either.

Room Tip: Try a different place, I am not aware of a good room here.

I've stayed at this Club Quarters location at least five-six times over the last couple of years, and at this price point, it's always my first choice for a stay in Philly. The location is outstanding no matter what your reason for travel - Center City is quite walkable and the bus / cab availability is extensive, so this location is reasonably close to the Museums, commuter train lines, South Street, Italian Market, Rittenhouse, Independence Park, Reading Terminal, Chinatown, and tons of great bars and restaurants.

It's primarily a business hotel and caters to that crowd, which I've always found convenient - computer terminals with printers in the grand lobby, efficient service, and many amenities and conveniences like laundry service. The rooms vary in size, but all that I've stayed in have been clean and well-appointed with coffee makers, irons, refrigerators, flat screens, and wifi. Each floor offers empty water bottles with a filtered water cooler, which is unique and convenient. The bathrooms are nothing extravagant but are clean; many have only showers instead of tubs, which is fine with me. Individually-controlled thermostats in the rooms are also a nice touch. Housekeeping is adequate but never intrusive, and there's a 24-hour front desk. The lobby is beautiful and sunny, with plenty of couches and armchairs with newspapers, magazines, and tourist info to peruse. Water, tea, and coffee are also available in the lobby in the morning, often into the afternoon.

On a couple of occasions I've upgraded my room on arrival, usually for a nominal fee (last time it was $25), for a suite that includes a kitchenette, sitting area, and dining table. Not necessary if you're not spending much time in the room, but great for the extra space.

It's really become my default location in Philly - nothing fancy, but reliably convenient, clean, and efficient. Many companies have business arrangements for discounts with the various Club Quarters (as my former employer did), so be sure to check with your company before booking.

The hotel is in the absolute center of Philadelphia, a short walk away from the most important sights. The room was very clean, cosy and for this price, excellently furnished, almost like a four-star hotel room. The lobby is grand and spacious too, ideal for mingling with others it that's your thing. All in all, I had a great time staying in the Club Quarters.

Only two minor things came as annoyments. First, the elevators cannot always be used with the room cards which is a major annoyment, given that they cannot be used without them, either. This seems to be a systemic problem, so it needs to be repaired. The other negative experience is a more specific thing. One night, around 11pm, the whole hotel was woken up by the beeps of the fire alarm and a voice repeating that no one should use the elevators until the emergency report was confirmed. This went on for more than half an hour, after which they switched off the whole alarm and apologised. Not that I don't deem fire alarm necessary, but this was particularly nerve-wracking.
