Description: Behind the wrought iron gate, past the herbaceous patio and through the atrium is Talula's Garden, the warm and elegant Washington Square eatery from Aimee Olexy and Starr Restaurants. The modern menu, prepared with carefully-sourced ingredients and a light European touch, changes with the seasons. The artful cuisine, hospitable staff, sustainable spirits, and a focus on cheese make the dining experience here incredibly memorable.

“One of Philly's best.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012 via mobile

We have eaten at many of Philly's restaurants and tonight's meal ranks in my top 5. We went for a birthday dinner. Our server, Kate, was attentive and personable. The tuna crudo was good. I had the wine-braised brisket and friend had the duck, both excellent. The side of brussels sprouts a good portion and popular. Both tables on either side also ordered them. Get the doughnuts for dessert. A real treat! The coffee is French press. All in all, a great experience.

“Good food, decent ambiance”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2012

Talula's Garden is what I've come to expect from Starr's food food lately: chic, smart and decent food.

Yet there wasn't the sort of sparkle that would have me running back and I'm not sure why. Perhaps it was the relative lack of non-meat dishes and the slightly oily scallops? Good food, but I'm not raving about it. There's enough restaurants in Philly to go try other places rather than come back here.

The cheeses were a particular hit - just let them know what you like and they will bring you a selection of amazing global cheese.

Best with friends rather than romance, I'd say - slightly hipster crowd and busy, lively ambiance. The ambiance is probably the reason why it's hard to get a table here.

“EXCELLENT CHOICE”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

Attentive service to one guest with nut allergy, carefully detailing menu and communicating with chef staff. Beautiful food. Busy with noise level to match. We added SIDES and happy we did as portions smaller than many for the pricing.

“Pretty decor, nice plating, fresh food.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

I love the garden theme here and for a large restaurant I think they still pull off an eclectic feel. The food choices were good standards with some refreshingly different ingredients. Every morsel was great. The scallop entree was delicious. Their mixed drinks were also really good. It was a mixed crowd, but would be suitable for a family, romantic dinner or a fun night with friends. I will definitely go again.

“First-rate dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

Our experience at Talula's Garden was sensational. We have dined at Amy Olexy's other restaurants (Django and Talula's Table in Kennett Square) and wondered if there would be any drop-off in quality without her ex in the kitchen. No way! Everything tfrom the ambience to the knowledgable and attentive servers to the food was of top quality. We had the red snapper and brisket entrees, along with mushroom and beet side dishes and finished with a cheese plate. Bloody Mary was also very good. I've also been to her ex's new restaurant (A. Kitchen near Rittenhouse Square) which was very good, but Amy's place is better.
