“Out of town on business”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

I travel frequently for business across the United States, more recently in the North East region, and have unfortunately lost count of the many cities, hotels and rooms that I've stayed in. There are certain things that do stand out over the years about my experiences...which include some pretty terrible hotels as well as hotels that really stand out in areas that make my trip enjoyable. Staying in downtown Philadelphia is tricky. It's a huge, older city which means that the buildings themselves have been redone but are confined within the footprint of older, smaller spaces. It also means that you are at the mercy of dreadful traffic, frequent sounds of sirens, older elevators and smaller rooms. The Hotel Palomar has been able to navigate all of those challenges and create a welcoming, beautiful space that is tastefully appointed and focused on customer service. You're welcomed with enthusiasm and invited to their nightly wine hour. I can name all the hotels that I have stayed at that offer nightly wine hour...and regardless of how and where it is served, the type of appetizers or the quality of wine...it seems to me that this type of gesture is welcoming and atypical. Another reviewer commented that it felt like a boutique hotel and that resonated with me. Boutique hotels feel more personal, are quirkier and in my opinion, more enjoyable. I go to Philly often...and will be rebooking at The Palomar.

“This Hotel makes Philadelphia worth visiting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

First, let me start, I really have had nothing but negative experiences in Philadelphia over the last 30 years. So, I normally avoid this like the flu. However, my God Son got married there over the St. Patrick's weekend so off we went.
When we were in a traffic jam- there is always a traffic jam- our Garmin fried and we had to call Consierge who cheerfully assisted and got us there. Sign in front almost impossible to see as you approach.
Upon arrival we were greeted by the Valet staff- car taken to parking and then the Bell person Jonathon took over from there. It was afternoon reception and he secured complimentary glasses of wine for us before we even got checked in. Well, that was the story of the HOSPITALITY for our entire stay.
Everyone - everywhere - treated us like we were family they had not seen for some time.
The rooms are city hotel size, so not huge but very comfortable, very clean, they smell great, and are completely comfortable.
They have coffee etc. in the Lobby in the morning- the coffee is really good and they freshen often- great bag tea selection also.
We enjoyed dinner from In Room Dining the first night and the food was quite good- hot food was piping hot and cold food well chilled. The flavors were right on. Seared Salmon with Red Quinoa/ grilled Anise and Catch of the Day (shrimp, octopus, scallops/ papradelle pasta and broth, both were very tasty. We ordered the Truffle Popcorn to be our dessert- it was OK but not very much truffle. But, the next day in the Lounge it was great- mucho truffle- you should try it. They even delivered an extra chair to the room so we could both be comfortable while dining.
Very Civilized.
I have always laughed at the "City of Brotherly Love" because it is anything but that. However, we will return since we now know about this Hotel.
While we did experience a problem which was not the Hotel's fault Eric the Manager on Duty even took care of that for us.

We are making plans to go back already.

Room Tip: City view King rooms have a terrific view and it is literally just a couple dollars more. Also, the...

Richard D,

I am excited that we were able to renew some of your faith in the "City of Brotherly Love and Sisterly Affection"

Our team really enjoys adding those special touches to make you feel like you are just enjoying time with family, and you even to get to have someone else make your bed and clean up the room. What more can you ask for?

Please come back real soon to visit your Palomar family. We promise to make you feel welcome all over again.

“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

We stayed in the 1 bedroom suite. I called ahead to request a non-pet room as it is a pet friendly hotel. The hotel is conveniently located right in the center of town. Street parking was nearly impossible to find, but valet service was excellent. Room was a tad small, but clean. Bathroom was unnecessarily large for the space. We had a corner suite so it was very quiet.

“Another Excellent Kimpton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2013

Greeted like we were friends, fluffy robes, a spot by the fire in the lobby and flowing wine set the stage for a romantic and lovely stay-cation this past weekend. For In-Touch members, you can raid the mini-bar (up to $10 comped) and enjoy free WiFi. The vibe is warm and inviting, but just buzzy enough to make you feel a little bit hipper than usual, and the location was sublime, within walking distance to MANY great places. (We highly recommend trekking a few blocks to enjoy the piano bar at Dalia's Lounge on Lombard for the perfect ending to a romantic night.) Kimpton delivers again!

“Great base for stay in Philadelphia”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 17, 2013

We visited Philadelphia before travelling on through Pennsylvania. The hotel was recommended by our travel agent and it suited us just fine. We arrived by taxi, so not a problem in getting out right in front of the hotel. The door staff and reception were very friendly and efficient and we were in our room in no time at all and with no fuss, and also in time for the nightly wine event. The room was spacious with good facilities and the bathroom was clean and well stocked with everything you would need, I particularly liked the lighting in the room as it could be dimmed as required, in particular I liked this in the bathroom! We then took ourselves off to the nightly wine hour, which was a nice touch, and gave us a chance to chat to some other guests and plan our activities. We stayed for four nights and the wine hours were much busier on weekends and did become a bit noisy and cramped, but it was fun anyway. We ate breakfast in the hotel every day and the staff were friendly, courteous and the food was ok too, perhaps a bit pricey but more convenient than going out for breakfast. The hotel itself is a beautiful building and very nicely designed with some interesting artworks too and feel like a boutique hotel. Despite the fact that the hotel was very central and on a busy road we slept really well and had no problem with noise from outside or from other rooms, which was a great relief! The hotel is in a great location to access central Philadelphia and close to many bars and restaurants and I would recommend it as a base if you are in Philly. We didn't have a car so can't comment on parking or valet service but everything else was good about this hotel, and the staff were very friendly and helpful too.

Room Tip: Our room was on the side of the hotel overlooking a church, maybe this made it a bit quieter than if...
