“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

The hotel is located in a great area for all of the historical sites and attractions, as well as restaurants and nightlife. My friend booked the hotel because of a great deal through hotels.com. It was more like a funky boutique hotel with a cool atrium courtyard with brick walls and windows. Our room was fun and cool with an amazing view of City Hall. The beds were really large and comfortable.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I forgot my toothbrush/toothpaste and someone brought a packet up to me within minutes of calling down to the front desk. Also, the doorman offered us umbrellas on our way out to see the sites since it looked like it would rain (and it did...it poured for hours).

My only complaints: The wardrobe closet light never went off the entire night and the bathroom had a sliding door that didn't lend to much privacy.

Le Meridian hotel placed us in an inside room with the one window facing the floor level of a reception room. - Room 518. With curtains necessarily closed for privacy, best explained as an inside cabin on a cruise ship.
When we requested a change we were told that they had no street view rooms available.
We arrived at noon (well before check in time) the day of our reservation and were the unlucky couple that had to take this one room.
Makes no sense as another couple was able to change their room.
Room #518 should not be used.
In addition to NO privacy the air conditioner was blowing directly onto the bed.
We wrote to the management and received a blow off letter.
We will never consider a Le Meridien Hotel on our next visit to Philadelphia.

Room Tip: Do not choose the 5th floor

We travelled to Philadelphia for the first time as a family, with our four month old son. We pre-booked Le Meridien as we were given a special rate per night for a friend's wedding which we were attending at the Kimmel Centre.

Le Meridien was very easy to get to by train from the airport. A direct train from the airport to Suburban station took 18 minutes and cost $8 per adult single. From Suburban station it then took us 5 minutes to walk to the hotel, and there was an elevator at the station which we used as we had our pram with us. There is also an elevator from street level to the lobby so access with our pram was relatively straight forward.

We checked in fairly early at around 2pm and our room was ready and waiting. A spacious room on the tenth floor awaited us with two queen beds. Unfortunately we faced another building which meant the view was not brilliant but the room was otherwise spacious and comfortable.

No information was given in the room regarding room service or the restaurant downstairs, and we had to phone the lobby to find out about the services offered to us. Breakfast was not included in the price. One cosy chair to sit on, a desk and chair and a wardrobe with two lamps. Little else in the room.

There is a fitness centre on the fifth floor with free weights, running machines, exercise bikes and x-trainers.

You are offered the opportunity to save on housekeeping by putting a sign up on the door which means your room is not cleaned or towels changed that day. If you agree to this you get a $10 gift card to be used in the restaurant downstairs. We accumulated $40 in this fashion so we were able to have a lovely dinner in the Amuse restaurant on our last night.

Wifi is complimentary in the lobby or costs $9.99 per 24 hours in your room. However, you can sign up to the 'Starwood Preferred Guest' scheme which is a points collecting scheme which is free to join and offers complimentary wifi in the room. We very easily signed up for this and had free wifi in the room for our stay.

Lots of tourist attractions are within walking distance to Le Meridien. Fairmount Park and the Museum of art are all within a couple of miles and the hotel overlooks City Hall if you are lucky enough to get one of the rooms with this view. Broad St is also a minute's walk away, giving you access to the Philadelphia street famous for the performing arts.

All in all, a pleasant stay. Not a great view but a comfortable hotel with reasonable customer service and easy access for families with children/babies/disabled.

A cot costs extra at $25 per night but our son slept in the second bed adjacent to us in a self-constructed recess. He isn't able to roll yet so we were happy with this.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking City Hall provide splendid views

Oxford,

Thank you for sharing your experience. My staff and I always appreciate guest feedback so that we can continually review our services and facility. I particularly appreciate your offering compliments and traveler tips like our $10 “green choice” credits, free lobby Wifi and the ease of train access from PHL airport.

It sounds like you were able to take advantage of our location in close proximity to our most of Philadelphia’s great cultural and historical attractions.
I hope we have the opportunity to serve you again.

Safe travels,
Evan

Very Euro low key entrance, with a 'chic' lobby with mood lighting, think Virgin Air. Friendly staff. They changed my room to accomodate a King request, but when they changed me I went from a key card access floor to a public floor. Try to stay above the 5th floor. No free internet.

Room is spacious but spartan, no art work, Big complaint is the 'work station'. As you can tell from the picture, you have to sit on a bar stool, that is not adjustable and is HARD! wood, with no cushioning. My sciatic nerve complained after about 1/2 hr, typing this now standing up at the desk.

Room Tip: higher floor, construction on side street ask for room away from that, they were jack hammering at 9...

Recently spent a weekend at the hotel for a friend's wedding. It has all of the amenities you'd expect from a Starwood property: modern decor, friendly staff, well-position (and stocked) bar and decent-sized room with pleasant bathrooms / beds / etc.

It's ideally situated among many landmarks and good restaurants (I'm always impressed by the number of good restaurants in Philly).

Important to note that I got an incredible deal on Kayak - ended up paying less than $150 / night for our rooms which make the stay much more pleasant. Definitely check Kayak, Booking.com, etc. before heading to their website for rates (this is true of most Starwoods.)

Only real drawbacks of staying here: we were in a room with two double beds and they felt very much like twin and half, didn't seem like double beds. The layout of the hotel, which used to be a YMCA, is a little confusing with a courtyard of sorts breaking up the rooms on many floors. The gym is small - I'm a big advocate of hotels that hope to attract young, hip clientele maintaining a well-equipped, large gym. But it is open 24/7.

This was my second time staying at this hotel. It's in a great location in the city. The staff is very warm. The moment you pull up you are welcomed with smiles and politeness. The hotel is very modern and it was a great stay overall. Last time I was here it was just my husband and I but this time we stayed with our 7 week son. We were able to have a crib in our room and still have a good stay.

We stayed at The Meridian while in Philadelphia for a Wedding. The Hotel provided a block of rooms at special prices for the Wedding Guests. It was a wonderful experience. The staff was courteous, professional & welcoming. The restaurant was only used for our breakfast, but the food was delicious. I've stayed at other 5 star hotels in Philadelphia, so I can compare fairly. The Meridian is a fine Hotel.
